I have been looking into going into teaching because it pays more than museum work and is far less competitive. It is truly sad where the priorities are when it comes to salaries. If I had my way teachers, nurses, police and fire, and every other job that actually effects people's lives would pay drastically more and corporate lawyers, stockbrokers, and politicians would all have to live on under 50K a year...
