What is loss prevention?

I have to admit that I echo Jessie's comments about her future drama "frustrated; confused; disappointed; lost; angry; betrayed" only my issues relate to current drama.

When you are hired into a company they usually run through their "companies policies" all the while overloaded with new information regarding training, new people, etc.  When hired ( Read more... )

Personally, I'd tell them to blow it out their collective ass. But then I wouldn't have voluntarily admitted anything. To state that you caused them a loss is to assume that these purchases would have been made even if you had not worked there. It does not consider that without you there, those purchases may have never happened and considering that the mark up for this clothing is well more than 40% you didn't cost them any loss. Maybe not as big a profit as there could have been, but as they say, it's better than nothing.

In the end it's a part-time job for what I'd guess isn't the best pay in the world. Don't put yourself through such an awkward situation and shitty treatment for it. How can it really be worth it?

Now that I have had time to think about the whole situation, I wish I wouldn't have said anything and wonder where it would have gone. Did they catch me on camera? I have no idea.. do they have any actual proof that those items I purchased were gifts for my friend? I have no idea.. maybe she's my lesbian lover and I like buying her things.

The fact that my manager approved the transaction and then later somehow found out that it wasn't a ligitimate purchase for myself... BULLSHIT!

I say quit and forget you ever worked for them. It's just a part time job for extra cash, you can get one of those any where. Don't stress yourself out over it. Quit Polo and take some time to relax. Dick's will be hiring again in the spring you can use me as a reference. There's one in Novi.
Your sisters present, that was a gift from you to her? If so I don't think you should have to pay that back. What difference does it make if she was with you? I think this whole thing is complete bullshit. You should talk to another manager and tell them that the one manager said it was ok. Try to get out of paying back the money and then quit.

The fact that it is a part-time job really shouldn't bother me but I pride myself in doing things right for a job and they really made me feel like shit. They made me feel like a horrible person. I know that people have abused their discount before and sure that people are doing it as we speak. How come I got caught? Did someone rat me out? Did the store get caught? Did my manager get caught and since shit rolls down hill and they take it out on me?

What fucking bullshit. Serious bullshit.

I assume you've made your decision by now by quitting owuld be my answer as well. It's only a part time job, don't put them on your resume, get something else where they won't treat you like shit. EVERYBODY that works in retail has used their discount for somebody else. Period.

*hugs* Let us know what happens/happened!

It is serious bullshit. I have a call into Human Resources for the company and I am going to try and get some answers since my manager neither Mr. Loss Prevention can give me specifics on what a "gift" is. If no one actually knows what the policy is and if my manager actually rang up the transaction could it be considered wrongful termination?!?

Ohhhhh, how nice that they can't give you a specific on what a gift is - what is wrong with them?! It looks like they were just looking to cut payroll to me. f'bullshit!

Seriously. A friend of mine told me that it sounds like someone was trying to ambush me. Whether it be the management because they got busted for allowing the purchase to be made or another employee saw everything and ratted me out. FUCKERS!
