Fob's have been around for a long time. Most VW owners have them and they are hot like switchblades.

my key fob in canada was a stick of ram and a flesh eating beetle. although i'd never heard the term before... its simply my keychain.

I think most people do, but if you're going to get technical the chain is the keys and ring and the fob would be whatever is hanging from them.
