A Hat Full of Sky - Terry Pratchett 
    Second in the Wee Free Men series.  I'm gonna read these to my girls because the protagonist is exactly the kind of girl I want them to be.

i picked up the first one the other night at your recommendation. so far, so wonderful. thanks. i used to read these kind of short stories all the time. then i stopped. hmm.

i also picked up keri hulme's the bone people, if you want a recommendation back. i've just started it, and i'm already in love.
