I loved Wash's "two men enter, one man leaves" reference line, and Kaylee's thumbnail-hiding. I keep saying this, but the voices stay so true, even though they're getting situations thrown at them that are so new/different from the show. I wouldn't have been able to imagine genuine-sounding Zoe-Simon interaction before this scene.
And now a dirty part of my brain wants to go back the the Zoe/Simon fleeing lovers-jealous spouses concept for a while.
LOL. One of the things I tried to do on purpose in this one was to put together pairs/groups of characters who wouldn't naturally fall together, and Zoe and Simon seemed like a no-brainer, along with Wash and Jayne (who are really going to have to learn to work together, or this whole thing is going to end badly), and Mal and Wash without Zoe for a buffer.
I'm putting together another unlikely pair in the next chapter ;-)
Okay, last of my incessant comments for now, I swear. Only because this is the latest chapter to date.
I have to agree with the above, though, and I need to add that not only do you have their voices nailed, you've got actions pretty much down to the point that I can see this all happening so vividly in my head. Crazy! It's like watching a lost season of the show.
Looking forward to more! I'm really enjoying the pair-ups/groups that, as you said, aren't very likely or commonly seen, even in fandom.
