He set four bottles down upon the desk, each in turn and then waited.
"What's this?" A simple question in regard to the alcohol he had placed down.
"She's leaving them behind for me, Sir. First it was the wine, red then white, after which came the mead and then the rum." He pointed to each bottle in turn.
The bottle of red wine was lifted up, opened and the contents sniffed. "There's at least one drink's worth missing from each. Did she enjoy a taste before leaving them behind?"
He nodded, "That she did, yes. She told a tale as well. Would you care to hear how her parents met?"
The look he was given was one he recognized well enough. "I'll write up a report and have it on your desk before I leave."
"Good," was the reply, "Anything else of note aside from these bribes designed to lure you out of the dark?"
"She has left the city temporarily in the company of others. I have sentries established, awaiting her return so that it won't be missed." He waited, wondering if he had neglected to mention anything of importance. His report would be more detailed but he had no wish to be questioned about it.
"She continues to remain within the Upper City limits, avoiding the Lower City."
"Yes, Sir." He wondered about that, wondered what would happen when that changed.
"Very well, I think we can begin the next phase when she does return. You know what to do. I want results."
"You want her herded now, Sir?" He had the resources for the task, he only had to implement them and allow a natural progression. It could take a few days, maybe even a week or two, but the outcome would be the same.
"She's proving to be a distraction, a useful one. I'm enjoying the light entertainment given the circumstances. See that it's done. That is all. Dismissed."
He bowed and left the room, going in search of the two others who had been assigned to assist in the next phase of this little assignment.
