--[ Ruined Stables ]----------------------------------------[ Amber City ]----
These ruins are what remains of the stables in the Watch Compound. Some areas were not completely burned down to the ground and can still provide little shelter from the sun. Mainly though, the wood is charred and ready to be torn down before it falls down.
Llewella dismounts from her horse and hands the reins off to one of the guards that came with her. "Unpack them," Llewella says to another, who begins, with the help of some fellows, to unpack large mirrors from the back of the wagon.
The arrival of the Princess and her escort brings Navarre's conversation to Havers to an abrupt halt. Together the two men watch as the mirrors are unpacked. They exchange a quizzical glance, neither of them certain about what is going on. It is Havers who approaches Llewella first. "Your Highness," he is polite and offers a bow, "I am Watch Captain Havers. How may I serve?"
Llewella inclines her head, slightly, to Havers. "Your stables were burned down," she tells the Captain, not looking at Navarre. "I am told that the one most commonly thought of as doing it is innocent. So I came to see the truth."
The captain turns to regard Navarre before addressing Llewella again. "I do believe the former captain's assertion of innocence, Your Highness. If the truth can be brought to light, it can put the matter at rest for once and for all."
Navarre finally steps forward and offers a bow. "You sent for me, Princess Llewella." He glances at the mirrors, "Can I offer any assistance?"
"Mm," Llew agrees with Havers. "It will aid him none in gaining his position back, but Sir Navarre has as much a right to claim innocence as any." The guards begin to place the mirrors so the whole of the ruined stables might be reflected on them. "Just stand here and watch, Navarre."
Navarre slips his hands behind his back and does just that, watch. He watches the set up of the mirrors and sneaks in a glance now and then at the Princess, watching her too. Captain Havers admits, "I'm not that eager to lose my promotion to make way for Sir Navarre's return, so that is fortunate in a sense."
A few Watchmen who are passing by and sneaking a peek at the proceedings snicker when they overhear Sir and Navarre used together. Nobody interferes with Llewella's escort in setting up the mirrors though.
The princess, for her part, says little that is not required. Once the men have seen to the mirrors' placement, she stands closer to one and begins to chant quietly under her breath. The reflective surfaces go gray and foggy.
The compound grows silent, most eyes on the princess including Navarre's and Havers'.
The fog clears from the glass after a couple moments and begins to show the stables....
The stables look dilapitated but they aren't the charred wreck they are now. Generally they are ignored, nobody comes or goes but in the dim light of the early evening there is movement. A figure sneaking through and spreading something over the wood.
Llewella continues her quiet chant, letting the scene play out. IT may, or may not, be enough to clear Navarre's name.
Navarre looks a little pale as he watches the events as they unfold in the reflected surface. Havers whispers something to him and he nods but doesn't take his eyes from the mirror.
The figure is dressed all in black and is lithe as well as shorter than the former captain. Their face is hidden behind a mask but there is a softness that could hint the arsonist was a woman. A match is struck and a pile of hay that has been pushed together is lit. With surprising ease and agility, the figure exits the stables and the fire takes a hold, greedily consuming the wood.
The mirrors only reflect the stables, and do not follow the figure when it passes out of view. Llewella stops her chanting and turns towards the current and former Watch Captains. "Do either of you recognize the arsonist?"
The two men look at each other before looking at Llewella and answering her question. Havers says, "No, Your Highness." Navarre says, "Yes."
"Then why don't you work with Captain Havers," Llewella tells Navarre, "to get that person in custody." She gestures to her men, to get them packing up the mirrors.
Navarre nods to Llewella, "I shall, Your Highness. Thank you." Glancing at Havers, he says, "I can make a statement at any time of course." For his part, Havers bows to Llewella, "The Watch does thank you, Princess Llewella for your actions here today. Although it does not return Sir Navarre to duty, it does lend credence to the work we do."
Llewella makes a noncomittal sound. She starts to turn, but pauses. From a secreted pocket she pulls out a gold coin and flips it to Navarre before leaving.
Navarre snatches the coin out of the air and turns it over in his hand. A sly smile crawls onto his lips before he pockets the coin. "Thank you for your generosity, Princess Llewella."
Llewella nods. "Good day, gentlemen." And then she, and her men, are pulling out.
OOC Disclaimer: This scene was only intended to achieve one purpose; clear Navarre's name in regards to an accusation of arson. That is all. It is not being used to push for a reinstatement of his former position. Thank you.
