Wendy - Car seat question

Hi Wendy! Just looking to see if you have any suggestions... Katie will be 7 in a little over a week. She's 49"-50" tall. She is using the Graco Nautilus with the harness. She has been complaining on longer car trips (over an hour) that her legs are falling asleep during the ride. She is very close to outgrowing the harness but I was hoping ( Read more... )

The legs falling asleep is because the Nautilus doesn't have the most leg support. At her height if she's still got room in the Nautilus then she's all legs (Piper is five inches shorter and has maybe a half inch before she outgrows the Nautilus harness, and she'll be seven in a month). So the easiest thing to do would be to put a footrest of some sort in the car for her to rest her legs on. Dangling they're getting cut off at the edge of the Nautilus and going numb. You can fold blankets enough to put her feet on, or get a foam ice bucket and turn it upside and let her use that, or some put a string through a pool noodle and cut it down to size and tie it under/around the carseat (make sure the seat is installed properly, but then you can shimmy the string around it. NOT the noodle, just the string) so that way she can rest her feet on the noodle ( ... )

Thanks! Yes, she is all leg. I wonder how Thomas will fare in the Nautilus. We stuffed something in the footwell during the last trip. I'll have to see if I can find something more permanent - at least for now until I decide what to do next.

She is definitely above the weight limit for anything that isn't 65 lbs or higher. We have an Apex 65 that she outgrew last year.

The Clek looks really cool! Do you have any idea on a price for it? Also, do you know what the difference is between the Graco Air Booster and the Graco Turbo Booster?

Thanks again!

The Clek Oobr will be about $250. Ouch!

The Turbobooster is a smaller seat. It's not as wide and not as deep. It'd be perfect for Piper. The Air Booster has a mesh seat that sits on kind of springs over the base. It's hard to describe. Kids say it's very comfortable.

Both boosters come in a high back version and a backless. Definitely go for the high back.

Ouch is right! And neither of our cars has LATCH so... LOL The Air Booster sounds good, though. I'll have to check it out. We have a TurboBooster in DH's car and it fits her fine. I definitely plan to use a back until she is too tall to use one. :) Thanks again!
