fighting fire with fire

I was meandering around the city today, quietly sucking down a boost juice when I got an SMS from a guy I know who works at the bar across the road from where I live. It read 'I just thought you should know the restaurant below your unit is on fire ( Read more... )

When my daughter was in the Navy, her and others shared an off-base apartment. One night they woke up to smoke, a fire started in the wiring in the walls. The fire was put out quickly with almost no damage, but everything stunk like smoke. So she used quite a lot of Pine Sol in the wash loads and that removed the smell from everything washable. There are upholstery cleaners that will remove the smell, you might have to wash down the walls and ceilings with a Pine Sol and soapy water mixture, and any other surface that is washable. You might have to end up throwing out some things that the smell cannot be removed from. Smoke damage is the nastiest thing. Good Luck. I'm glad you are all safe.

Eeep! How scary!
When I was 19 the townhouse next door (common walls) caught fire and, aside from dealing with smoke inhalation from going in and trying to get the stupid drug fucked girl who lived there out of the house, we ended up with water and smoke leaking through big cracks in the wall caused by the fire. The smell was terrible! I think the water in the carpet made it worse though so as long as your place is all dry a good air out and some smelly candles/incense and febreeze should do the trick!
I'm glad you, your stuff and your birdy are all ok!
