Well based on my "last week" in Ames. I'd recommend 1. Make sure you have plenty of time to hang out with your friends the last few days. Packing early is a good thing. 2. Don't get dumped. It really ruins the experence.
Let me know if you are doing any big group hang out things. Though getting up at six-thirty to work every day of the week makes it harder for me to show up.
