Can someone explain to me why criminals get MORE rights than their victims? Seriously.

I've always felt that way...but seriously...why does your aunt have more rights than you? Why does the murderer have more rights than the victim's family? Why does the rapist have more rights than the person they raped? It's so frustrating. Which, I'm sure, you completely understand.

I wasn't even thinking about her :P But you're right. But this debate is one of the reasons I absolutely could not continue with law school. Throughout my degree I worked side by side with all kinds of lawyers and you don't get to choose whether or not your client is guilty. They've chosen you to represent them, for better or worse and that's your job. I just couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't sit there and watch these assholes happy that they were going to jail. Michigan doesn't have capital punishment, so these guys that murdered their families, etc. got it good because they were going to prison for life where they got 3 square meals a day, free health care, exercise and television in most cases. It tore at my conscious every day and I decided it just wasn't the path I wanted anymore :(

At least you had a soul that you ensured the devil didn't take. :)

It's why law turned me off...I was robbed at gunpoint and the criminal had MORE rights than I did...

If that is so, why does the justice system seemingly care MORE about the criminals than the victims? The Constitution does give us all equal rights, but it doesn't mean that the rights are enforced.

But why don't the criminals lose their rights in prison? I just don't get it...
