Isabel is out seeing a film and I'm working on the book. About an hour ago, at 1:30pm UK time, the phone rang. A guy said "Good afternoon, Mr naxos, I'm phoning from the UK..."

Not quite believing this, I replied "Oh, cool. Hey could you tell me what time it is in the UK? I don't have my watch with me".

The guy was obviously a bit flustered, and said, "Um... um... yes, Mr naxos, it's 1pm."

I smiled, knowing as i do that India is on GMT +4.5 hours (hence the half hour discrepancy) and said "Oh, ok, that's fine. Yes I can talk. It's just that I'm waiting for a call from India, and what time is it there? About 5pm?"

The call center operative said "I'm not sure, Mr naxos, I'm telling you that I'm calling from the UK".

"But it's 1:30pm in the UK..." I said. "Your watch seems to be out by half an hour."

He hung up.
