Everyone noticed the difference - how could they miss it, with Draco and Ginny suddenly inseperable. It had been a shock, that a Malfoy and a Weasley would be together... But the family had grown to care for Draco in his time spent at the Burrow.

Fred and George mused that Ginny certainly brought out an even more hard-working side to Malfoy, as the Burrow now boasted of needing no repairs. Even the garage roof no longer leaked.

Molly and Arthur had rarely seen Ginny so cheerful, and couldn't help but marvel at the two of them.

"Oh Arthur," Molly whispered one night as they looked out the window at the two young lovers, "it does take me back... Remember our dating days?"

And as for Draco and Ginny, they nightly found themselves locked away in his room, making love with all the passion that fuels such a tryst.

"I love you Ginny Weasley..."

She wasn't sure if she heard the young man properly, but when she turned back to the bed, he was already asleep.

It was at that moment that the slight guilt started to weigh on her...

He's got feelings, Ginny. And you are taking advantage of him... Using him for sex. How ironic. But if Harry were to return, you know that you would desert Draco in an instant... But who knows if Harry will come back to you? Nay, best to keep the one you have. He's great in bed after all... Caring, attentive...

With her mind made up on the matter, Ginny left his room for her own, and easily fell into dreamless slumber.

*~*~*~*~

Time flew quickly, and with it came two owls, proudly bearing the Hogwarts crest.

"They're staying open!" Ginny squealed excitedly, already planning how best to tackle the year.

Peering over her shoulder Draco noticed what she hadn't.

"Gin," he whispered softly in her ear," that's a pretty high honour."

She glanced at him, confused, and then reread her letter.

Miss Weasley,

Due to the absence of the former Gryffindor Quidditch Captain, we have decided to award you this challenging position, at least until his return. At that time, the two of you may decide what to do.

Her mouth already open in utter shock, a whoop of ecstatic joy burst from it as she did a giddy dance around the room.

Meanwhile, Draco was lost in the contents of his own letter.

Mister Malfoy,

Due to circumstances of the previous year, we have carefully reviewed your entrance to the school. On the reccommendation of Harry Potter and the Weasley family, we have decided to allow you to return. However, due to a perceived threat against you, you will no longer be a part of Slytherin house, but will be given a private dormitory."

The rest of the letter outlined the required textbooks and his timetable, but Draco found himself lost in his thoughts.

Removed from Slytherin? Who would have expected that the Slytherin Prince would lose his title this way? By defecting from the dark cause... I doubt Slytherin would have been as brutal as Voldemort will be if he finds you. Strange to know that if you had defected to Voldemort, he would have found it funny to leave you at the mercy of those you'd abandoned...

"Draco?"

Ginny was standing before him, hands on her hips with one eyebrow raised.

"You've said that a couple times, haven't you?"

He smirked when she nodded, and handed over his letter, waiting for her reaction.

"Oh Draco," she murmured, quietly subdued at the change that awaited him for his final year at Hogwarts.

*~*~*~*~

The last week at the Burrow was uneventful. Molly ordered all the school supplies for Draco and Ginny, rather than letting them go to Diagon Alley. She also ordered the school stuff that Harry, Hermione and Ron would need, if they did return on time to return to school.

Draco wished that he could reassure Molly that they would be fine... After all, Potter is 'Wonderboy'... but he knew that it wasn't his place to do so. Instead, he took the small liberty of authorizing Bill to transfer a tidy sum of money into the Weasley's account, and to purchase Ginny a new broom...one that would be gifted anonymously when she returned to school.

Other than these small gestures, he enjoyed frequent games of quidditch with Ginny and her brothers, all the while attempting to ignore the cloud of impending change that loomed ominously over him.

*~*~*~*~

The day finally came for their return to school. Once again the floo network was to be employed to get the stodents to Hogwarts safely.

Molly wiped a few tears away as Ginny left first. When she was gone, Draco paused for a moment.

"I'll take care of her as best I can, Mrs. Weasley."

"Oh Draco. You've come to be family... you're welcome here any time."

With that, she gave him a tearful embrace and Draco stepped into the fireplace.

"Hogwarts!"

He felt the flames surround him as he stoicly faced the future that awaited him upon his return to the school.
