The quotes from Dumbledore are from Half-Blood Prince, various pages, during the private lessons.

After leaving Draco at the Weasley home, the three young heros of the Harry Potter saga began a long journey into the dangerous world outside Hogwarts. Their journey began at Godric's Hollow, the place where Harry's parents had hidden and met their demise, and where Harry himself had his fate sealed by Voldemort.

"Voldemort himself created his worst enemy, just as tyrants everywhere do!... He heard the prophesy and he leapt into action, with the result that he not only handpicked the man most likely to finish him, he handed him uniquely deadly weapons!... It is Voldemort's fault that you were able to see into his thoughts... You are protected, in short, by your ability to love!... I do not think he understands why, Harry, but he was in such a hurry to mutilate his own soul, he never paused to understand the incomparable power of a soul that is untarnished and whole."

The voice of Harry's mentor echoed in his mind as he stared at the house where his parents had been killed.

"Harry?" Hermione's worried voice broke through his reverie.

"Sorry 'mione," he said, trying to shake off the pitying looks his best friends were giving him.

Standing there together, the three friends looked at each other and then at the house. Then, with a sigh from Harry, the three of them headed inside.

Someone, probably on Dumbledore's orders, had reorganized the place. On the walls were paintings, and without even looking at the signature, Harry knew they were by his mother. The kitchen was small, but efficient. In his mind's eye he could see his parents dancing in that small room, holding him between them as they swayed.

*Dancing where the evening fell*

Going upstairs, he entered the room where his parents had slept...and after slowly looking at more of his mother's artwork, he picked up the Bible that lay on the nightstand. Opening it, he saw an envelope fall to the floor. Ron bent to pick it up, and as he did so, Hermione gasped. For there, written in beautiful script, was Harry's name.

With trembling hands, Harry sat on the bed, opening the envelope to find a letter, written in that same beautiful script.

Dearest Harry,

Oh peaceful child, I am watching you sleep as I pen this. You may never read it, who knows how life and, indeed, the prophesy will play out? Yes my dear, there is a grave prophesy that could affect you. It is why we've moved to Godric's Hollow. There is a terrible wizard who is destroying so many lives, and it could be that you are meant to stop him. If you choose not to follow the prophesy, however, well and know this: your father and I will always stand by you in that decision.

Dumbledore has given us a small idea of a grave matter needing to be taken care of before Voldemort can be destroyed. There is much evidence that suggests Voldemort has split his soul, placing parts of it into things called "Horcruxes". However, we don't know if Dumbledore would choose to share this information with you, so I have deigned to tell you now.

Ever since discovering that Voldemort has created these Horcruxes, I've been doing research. It seems that he has most likely chosen certain relics - and I want to tell you where I think you might be able to locate Ravenclaw's silver quill.

Voldemort has admired the muggle killings of the European Jews, and even occaisionally lent his aid to Adolf Hitler. Since then, he has been reported to visit the death camp Auschwitz every year on Hitler's birthday. I have the instinct that this silver quill is hidden at the death camp.

Harry, I don't know what to expect as far as our lives go, who knows if your father and I will even be there for you as you grow? But one thing that I know is this - we love you. We would give our lives up for you if it came to that, and we hope that you will always recognize this to be true.

Be strong, my son, and know that above all, your father and I love you and are proud of you.

- Mum

"What is it Harry?" Hermione asked him gently as he sat with his head in his hands, a few stray tears cascading down his cheeks.

He handed her the letter, and as she read it, Ron peered over her shoulder.

"So we're going to a death camp then," Ron said, breaking the silence.

"Yes, Ron," Harry sighed, slightly resigned, "we're going to Auschwitz."

*~*~*

The three friends stood before the gates of the camp, fallen in disrepeair, and seemingly held together by the climbing vines that grew there. The sign over the entrance of the camp read, "Arbeit Macht Frei."

"Work makes you free," Hermione stated.

"That's ironic, isn't it? This forced labour camp, where so many were killed...the first thing they see upon arrival is this disgusting lie that work will make them free." Ron shook his head in disgust, and the trio walked through the gates, ready to face whatever came next.

"Well Harry, what are we looking for?" Hermione, ever organized, asked quietly.

"Dumbledore felt a magical residue at the last place," Harry's voice shook slightly at the mention of Dumbledore, but he retained his composure. "D'you know anything about detecting that 'mione?"

As Hermione smiled and opened her mouth to answer, Ron attempted to lighten the mood by quipping, "Does Hermione know anything about that? Has she read Hogwarts a History?"

The three friends allowed themselves a moment's reprieve from the gravity of the situation, laughter floating freely through the once intimidating camp.

As fast as it began, they ceased their laughing, sobered by their surroundings. Then, Hermione leading the way with her wand out, they started their search for a piece of a soul, hidden away in the depths of this place so devoid of human life. Ironically the camp was rich in plant life. The trio passed a swimming pool, surrounded by a lush, though overgrown, garden, with what was once a beautiful promenade.

"Disgusting to think that some important people would have swam and enjoyed life here - all the while smoke from other human beings' bodies billowed from the ovens..." Hermione's voice shook with many emotions, unconveyable.

The other two understood, and the three of them carried on.
