Got it set so that posts are automatically at least friends-only, unless I select "Private" which is a bit pointless for a twatting WEB JOURNAL.

Ah no, PRIVATE is useful for shopping lists and bitching about one's significant other when they're also on LJ and in all your existing friends groups. ;-)
