You realize this is really about my own anxieties regarding getting old and having nothing to really look forward to about getting old. D&D sucks, video games are getting retarded, I hate kids even more than I did when I was one (but I knew that would happen), music sucks, movies suck, Sam got married, the list goes on.
There will come a time you regret this. It took 10 years, but after I got rid of my NES and SNES, I found that I really wished I'd held on to them. Since then I won't get rid of any console. I'll bet a dollar the time will come that I'm happy I held on to my N64.
My rationale is this: Most older games that I'd want to play again will eventually be available somewhere as downloadable content.
The only possible exception is Marvel vs. Capcom 2 since Capcom & Marvel don't have a partnership anymore. I'll probably use part of the commissions from the sale to track down a copy of that game for PS2.
