This is yet another post that I have a feeling that I'm going to get blasted for, but like everyone else, I've been bombarded by the Internet and the media with skewed misinformation about this Gates/Crawley situation. I just can't stand it anymore

I've heard conflicting reports about that press conference. From more than one person, I heard that Obama actually wanted to be asked about the situation. At face value, it appears that he was taken off-guard by the question and tried to answer it rather than basically saying "no comment" (which probably would have been best). If the latter is the case, I definitely forgive him.
What I don't get, though, is why he invited the two of them to the White House for beers. I think he would have been much better off distancing himself from the issue altogether.
Oh well, Obama's a young president. He probably wasn't prepared for how the whole thing snowballed for him. I'm sure given time, he'll learn when not to get involved.

Hopefully, he'll utilize his staff to generate a prepared statement on this type of stuff going forward. It seems kind of lame to be saying that, but in a role like his, if you say something genuine and off-the-cuff, no matter how seemingly benign, the domino effect can be huge.

However, wanna know the truth? When I see crap like this, I'm actually glad I'm not back in the states. When people cross to the other side of the street, or slow down so that I pass them (instead of letting me walk behind them), I always remind myself that at least I'm not in America. I have no idea how I managed to deal with that bullshit day-in day-out.
