How I write depends on where I am when inspiration hits me. Most of the time, I'm in the living room on the computer. Occasionally, though, I'm out and about, which is why I always carry a notepad and pen with me. :X
If I'm writing on the computer, I'm at my desk. If I'm using a notepad, I'll find a table or use the arm of the couch or something to balance it on.
I prefer music, because that's usually what inspires me to write something. Lately, though, I've been in the middle of a huge dry spell. I think my muse ran off to Cancun without me. :(
I write anywhere, doing anything. Usually since I spend so much time in the car, I draft stories in my mind there, and then either type them at home or pen them at work.
I usually always carry a notebook and a pen just in case. Music, tv, children, doesn't matter the background music, I can always write something if the muse is handy.
i do most of my writing on my desktop, though i carry a notebook with me, or have one by my bed for "emergencies". i play music because i can very rarely live in silence, these days, unless i'm feeling particularly contrary. i can write when i have both music and the television on. i write best when i'm alone.
If I'm in my room, watching TV or whatever, I type on my laptop. Anywhere else, it's one of my dozen notebooks or if it's at Uni, I use folder paper. I'm also incredibly finicky about the sort of pen I use for writing in general >.< Typing, always a desk. Handwriting, I do it anywhere - car, cafe, couch, bed ^_^.
I usually listen to music, but only music I feel would play in the background of my fic if it was an actual scene. I have almost 60 playlists in iTunes for specific WIPs. It sometimes takes me half an hour just to choose a song to play.
Usually, I sit at my desk with a cold drink and my iTunes playing very softly in the background. Uni's harder because I have to keep one ear listening to the class, and still focus on what I'm doing. Multitasking is a skill anyone needs, anyway.
I use a computer. I type crazy-fast, and if I write with a pen, I'll forget what I want to write by the time I've gotten around to it because I write slow - or else it'll be an illegible scrawl! I sit wherever is most comfortable at any given moment. Comfort is the key, otherwise I can't concentrate. And, I need music. I panic and go crazy in silence.
