Following on from earlier posts, can anyone remember anything about campsites? Some of these, I can remember enough to review:
Merricks
1) Distance: Balnaring; 45 min from Frankston? ♪♪♪
2) Rehearsal hall Large, carpeted (not shed-like), but shared with dining space ♪♪
3) Dorms: many small-Medium sized dorms, decent beds (bunks?) ♪♪♪
4) Kitchen/dining Outstanding oven, dishwasher... but near rehearsal space ♪♪♪
5) Heating ? Not a problem that I can remember
6) Toilets OK
7) Other Site may be shared with other groups, depending on numbers
Nb: has a lake
Wombat Corner
1) Distance - Belgrave (City limits) ♪♪♪♪♪
2) Rehearsal hall - dodgiest part of the campsite ♪1/2
3) Smallish Dorms (3-8 bed), connected and separate, decent beds ♪♪♪♪1/2
4) Small open kitchen that everyone tries to walk through. Has Dishwasher! Albeit, it's separate from kitchen area. ♪♪♪1/2
5) Central heating ♪♪♪♪♪
6) lots of well distributed toilets. Some short showers ♪♪♪♪
Golden Valleys Lodge (Mornington)
1) Distance - 45 min south of Frankston ♪♪
2) Rehearsal hall “cosy”, close, - OK for up to ~~60 people ♪♪♪
3) Large dorms (15 bed) with electric heaters; double-single bunks; ♪♪♪
4) Kitchen a little lo-tech, cramped ♪♪ ?
5) Wood heating dining and kitchen, electric heaters in dorms ♪♪♪♪
6) Ensuite-to-dorm toilets only. OK, but few to go around at peak times. ♪♪♪
7) All rooms connected, will only open dorms to required people numbers
Nb: No booze in dorms (restricted to dining area)
Polana
1) Location Healesville. 20 min past Lilydale ♪♪♪
2) Large, slightly reverberant rehearsal hall, seats up to 120. Open fireplace (smoky) ♪♪♪♪
3) Dorms: small to medium dorms (5 small ones), some beds saggy. ♪♪
4) Kitchen/dining: Well sized kitchen, dodgy appliances. Oven doesn't shut. ♪♪
5) Freezing. Open fire in hall, gas heaters in dining ♪
6) Toilets: Scungey showers, dubious waterworks, showerheads a little low ♪1/2
7) Other: Sports oval (which we aren't interested in) reported to have ground lice
Camp Narbethong
1) Location Narbethong, 30 min past Healesville ♪♪
2) Rehearsal hall OK ♪♪♪
3) Dorms of 6 beds, with semipartition walls in cabins with 4 dorms,
4) Kitchen/dining ? didn't pay attention ♪♪♪
5) Heating: Gets very hot at times ;) ♪♪♪♪♪
6) Toilets: Not great ♪♪1/2
Notes: Now a pile of cinders
Britannia Park
1) Just past Warburton ♪♪♪
2) Wide, narrow rehearsal hall (smoky)- Comfortable for 60-80. Open fire (smoky) ♪♪
3) Small dorms (3-8 beds, OK for coupling) spread over several cabins. Foam mattresses on dodgy slats ♪♪1/2
4) Small dining area, small kitchen. Good oven, OK stovetop. Encourages eating divisi ♪1/2
5) Little to no heating in dorms, warm dining (woodheater), open fire rehearsal ♪♪
6) Toilets tend to get backed up, small ... ♪♪
7) Bloody dark! Hard to find
Cost info (2008) $50 per head (no single-night fee!); $5 day fee; minimum 20
Other Campsites: (and things that might jog some memory):
Don Bosco - Trolley jousting
Heathcote Junction / Wandong - Ping pong; Rod R brought a telescope; Pennie hit her head. Not on ACA website, might no longer be operational.
Campaspe Downs - was this MIV98?
Anglesea - Booze forbidden at all
Mt Evelyn - Upstairs dorms, downstairs dining, possibly catered-only
Traralgon (Campsite name?) - had a fucking peacock. Most annoying bird ever.
Fern Gully Lodge, Healesville
Place north of melbourne for combined camp Dec 2004
And there was some place that had a (small) inbuilt spa...
