The hard punk has mo-hawk with a nose piercing to make his grandma cry. The emo has the look of an adrongynous crying alien. The country bumpkin line-dances with hat and boots. Is it really okay to like both Death Cab and the Queers?
Absolutly, I have a cousin who used to listen to Metallica and Britney Spears because he burned a cd with both of them on it.

It's many different people saying the same things in different languages. Each language has its pluses and minuses, but none are inherently better than any others. Music, like languages, is a means through which people express their feelings, thoughts, and beliefs, which are typical human traits anywhere you go. They just use different words, chords, melodies, to convey those emotions.

If you find something that speaks to you, go with it.
