Characters: All Employees Status: Open! Come in , come in! When: Half-off Friday! Location: Mother O'Maley's pub on Main. Summary: It's half-off Fridays at Mother O'Maley's pub, a new tradition where EVERYTHING on the menu is HALF-OFF!
How fascinating this was! The flashy lights, the rowdy noise, the intoxicating smell, the whole homey feeling of it all bombarded Ivan as he walked through the doors of the pub. If there was one thing he already liked about America, their bars were certainly exciting.
The tall Russian dampened the mood of the pub, but it didn't stop it completely. He walked to the bar and looked at all their incredibly cheep delectables. After having a salad to whet his appetite, he turned to the alcohol. Naturally he went straight to the Spirits; Vodka.
How wonderful it tasted! Of course, it was nothing like the Vodka back home, but it was certainly good. Ivan shook his glass a little. He was certainly pleased with today. But one last thing would make his day complete. A drinking game. He turned his eyes to the door of the restaurant expectantly. Surely someone will come and challenge him.
He had not had a drink since college. Oh college. Those were the days. He chuckled inwardly, even during his wild days he wasn't considered raucous but he at least went out.
He entered the bar and saw Ivan eating a salad. He watched the man curiously. He drank vodka. Gupta smiled at the irony of it.
Wary, he approached him. "Ah, Mr. Braginski. Might I join you?"
Ivan pivoted on his seat to look at the Arab. Recognizing him, he gave a large smile and patted the empty seat next to him. "Hello, Mr. Hassan Sir! And please do!" Ivan watched Gupta as he joined him.
"Say, would you like to play a little game?" Ivan asked innocently after a moment. To show what he meant, he shook his glass with almost all of its previous occupant gone. "On me."
He seemed friendly enough. Sitting next to him he opened the menu sitting on the counter. "Game?" he asked curiously. "A game of spirituous beverages? How does one play?"
Ugh, why did he come here? He was not meant for such activity. His body tensed up at every movement, nearly jumped at every outburst. He wasn't even sure what to order. All this food, it seemed not meant for anything other than to compliment the abundant spirits in the establishment.
The garish decor seemed to amplify the lively atomosphere. Oh dear. This may be too much.
He made his way to a table and sat. Armed with a glass of water and a menu he contemplated on what to order.
Armed with a beer of his own and a nice plate of hamburger and fries--all for $4! He loved Fridays!--it now came to the point where he'd need to sit down and actually devour it so he could order some more. With so many people having showed up by then, what with Gilbert's unfortunate companion having slowed him down, the seating was slim.
There was a strange guy sitting at a table by himself while holding up a menu still. With three perfectly good chairs available, Gilbert happily meandered over as it was no way unusual to sit with strangers back in Germany. With his hands full, he pushed the chair back with his foot, the wood making a low screech on the floor as it was moved, and said in a joyful voice, "I recommend the fries but haven't tried the burger yet. This seat free?"
A sharp voice cut through the air despite the noise and life. The screech of the wood made him jump. "Ah!" he yelped, his cheeks flushing.
"Ah,yes. The chair is free. I am sorry for not noticing you earlier. Please sit down."
He looked at the menu again. "Really? I am not much for red meat so I was considering the salad. Ah, I am sorry. I forgot my introduction. I am Gupta Muhammad Hassan."
"Thanks, don't mind if I do!" The full plate was set on the table but the beer was kept in hand when Gilbert took his seat. "I'm Gilbert Beilschmidt." His grin vanished behind the glass rim, the light color of the Bitburger possessing just a light taste.
"The salad probably doesn't taste bad," Gilbert said, having no idea. Now that they were sitting eye-to-eye, Gupta did look a bit familiar. "Hey, do you work at NationCorp?" Setting the beer down, he picked up the burger and took his first, big bite out of it.
Ohhh... Arthur felt at home here. Certainly, there was no soccer to yell at on the telly, there was no loudmouthed chavs slinging fists about, but the atmosphere was rather nice and familiar to him. When he had heard the news of the half-price night at the pub, he felt as though he had found his newest drinking establishment with little trouble.
The Englishman ordered a shot of London Dry Gin and drank it down, already ordering another.
Alfred sat down next to him with a resounding 'thump', a captain-and-coke in one hand, eyebrows raising at the shot of straight liquor. Well. Somebody was certainly drinking to wind up sloshed tonight, with or without the encouragement of the mischievous American.
"Bad day?" he added, raising a hand to order another drink for himself.
"I do have a name you know." He frowned when the loud American sat beside him with a drink in hand, already rethinking the prospect of this particular bar. He smiled, however, already quite pleased with his drinks - making the next one a gin and tonic with a quick shout to the bartender.
Arthur stirred what was left of the drink in his glass and knocked it back again.
"Mmnot as bad as you'd think. 'Ve been sketching up ideas for that little -- challenge thing we've got coming up..."
"Bet it's not as cool as my idea," Alfred said with a snerk, sipping his drink steadily, eyebrows arched at the slurred speech of the Englishman. Two shots in and he was already on his way out... and talking about the enemy's plans. He grinned a little as he sipped his drink. Arthur, so far, had proven himself to be a good guy... but a little information couldn't hurt either.
Entering into the pub, Antonio took a look around and hummed to himself. It had been the end of his first week at work, though it had been mostly filled with training and hanging out with his co-workers. Some of the people who he had met were pretty fun, some were definitely characters in comparison to others. Though he was not exactly homesick, he could not deny the fact that the atmosphere at the pub was not unwelcome, though it was nothing compared to what was in Spain
( ... )
Antonio may not have noticed, but there was one very amazed Asian female staring when she heard that one bottle of beer was one dollar.
"Amazing, it's that cheap?!" Sen didn't remember the last time she heard something was one dollar. And how much was the food? Goodness, also much cheaper.
"They weren't kidding about half-off Friday." Curiosity sure paid off because she definitely discovered something new.

Swirling the beer as his eyes remained fixed on the television, Antonio turned his head when he heard a girl talking. Surprised, he continued to look down at the petite lady as she gaped at the menu. Then his olive green eyes followed her stare to the chalked up list as a lopsided smile formed on his lips.
"I know, right?" he agreed as he jumped into a conversation with her, "I have never seen it like this when I visited. I almost felt like I was scammed back in the day!" With that, he punctuated the comment with a chuckle.
"Are you gonna get anything?" he added when he recovered. His own gaze swept across the list of items. "Say, you wanna split some nachos?"
FASHIONABLY LATE :>dawnlotusNovember 14 2010, 11:24:24 UTC
"Ah!" She smiled towards the man, nodding as he spoke. It was nice to meet someone so amiable, that she instantly relaxed straight after. "Yes, I thought many things were so expensive! Obviously we were not looking in the right places." Some of the stores she's heard of here, not exactly a place she was willing to buy from.
"Nachos?" Sen may have seen it on television, but she hasn't actually tried one yet. So she nods firmly. "Sure I will!"
Curiosity brought her here. After hearing about how great and cheap this place was, and that several workmates were going to be here, Sen decided that it would probably be a good idea to check it out herself. Though not an avid drinker, she had consumed alcohol here and there and sometimes almost competitively, given the occasion (only to regret it in the morning when her skull tries to tear apart).
But, there was also cheap food here! If it was actually very cheap, then that would be very cost affective, and Friday's dinner plan can be Saturday's dinner plan. So far, so good.
And Alfred appeared with a drink in hand, sliding it over to his coworker and employee with a grin. He was soon going to be broke at this rate, but Alfred always thought the fun time was more important than the money at occasions like this, and he left none of his department members out without a free drink.
"Ah, Alfred!" Sen waved as he came over, and looked at the glass. Her first gifted drink in this country! She smiled brightly before nodding gratefully.
"Thank you very much." Smiling, she turned to the counter, "But I'll shout you one too, and then we can drink together."
"Sounds good to me!" Alfred agreed, sitting next to the woman with a grin. She seemed to be fitting in more or less nicely, which he was happy about. The more comfortable his team members were, the more successful they would be. "Free food and drink always tastes the best, right?"
