Childhood vaccinations...

Dec 28, 2005 11:23

Ok, I haven't really thought about it, but I probably should. What does everyone think about them, and what does RESEARCH say about them? I know this sounds stupid, but I really don't have much time to do a whole lot of research and I think I really should know about these things. Alright...any comments or anything (besides debating) that needs ( Read more... )

I believe whole heartidly in them, I feel that if I have the opportunity to save my child from a potential harm, than I am all for it. In everything there is a risk, driving to work is a risk, walking down the street is a risk (someone just got ran over this morning down my road), and sometimes we have to take a risk, in this case childhood vacs only pose a small risk, but still one worth looking in to in some vacs, but all in all I want to protect my child first and foremost, so yes I believe in them, even AFTER all the research :) that was a little long sorry! hehehe

It's ok, and your thoughts are appreciated. Did Emalee get the Chicken Pox vac? Do you ever use AIM or Yahoo messenger?

I've also started reading a lot of info from Dr. Mercola (listed in a link above - he has a lot of good info about health in general... things like artificial sweeteners. I know that's not what you asked, but I thought I'd throw that in, too ( ... )

Mercury and other "heavy" metals are still present in vaccines - even though it has been said that they are removed... and I have research to back that up if you'd like to read it.

Care to give a cite? There's a handful of vaccines out there that have incredibly small residual amounts from storage and processing, but not in concentrations that pose any credible risk.

And please don't lump all heavy metals together. Iron is a heavy metal, afterall.

I find it hard to believe that pregnant women are told to limit their consumption of certain fish (including tuna) during pregnancy because mercury is harmful to the baby, but then we turn around hours after birth and intentionally put mercury in their small bodies.

The key word here is limit - not eliminate. Even prior to the removal of thimersol from most vaccines, the amount of mercury was well below the established limits of the WHO and FDA. Further studies following infants through the vaccination cycle confirmed that blood mercury concentrations never reached dangerous levels ( ... )

I look at things from a "lesser evil" standpoint. People get in an uproar about all the evil things that vaccinations can possibly do. I know for a fact what the diseases the vaccinations prevent against will do. And I'm not willing, especially with two highly-susceptible preemies, to risk their getting sick and dying. I worked too hard to get them here alive. I'd like to keep them that way.

Just wanted to apologize if it seemed like I was starting a debate against your wishes. There's a lot of outdated or incomplete information on this topic, and I find it hard to correct or elaborate, but I don't want to be disrespecful.

I have done a fair amount of research on claims from both sides, though, so I'll offer my take if you want it on any contradictory information you might come across.

Well, I was really asking for everyone's choices with their children and any information that has influenced those decisions. It is a PERSONAL one, and while I have vaccinated my child this WHOLE time, there is some stuff I'm sure I need to know about. However the CP (chicken pox) one I will not be giving as long as my husband is in accord with me. I think our daughter and soon to be something (boy or girl) will be fine. I survived and we all live with the choices we make! :) THanks for your input, it's definitely appreciated. There may be some posts coming later in response to what you and Gen wrote, but that's cause I haven't had time to read in depth right now..I'm at work! :) Hehehe! :)

You should consider asking over in Feb... you could put the same constraints of no debate - just what did you do... and I would uphold that as the mod. That's a community of moms with kids all about the same age...

Thanks, I think I will...and I really don't want any debates, it's more or less what you guys (meaning other parents) have decided to do. :)
