Chapter 26

Kyuhyun lie awake on his bed, his mind deeply immersed in thoughts. He kept thinking about what Yesung have said in the past about him and Seohyun.

“Sometimes, it does not take long for ‘just any other girl’ to become ‘just THE girl’.”

“You don’t trust him or are you just jealous because he might take Seohyun away from you?”

“I AM NOT JEALOUS! Why would I be? I just ca-“ Wait, what I am saying?

“Care for her,” Yesung ended his sentence for him. “Since when did you become so caring?”

Could his cousin be right? He stared blankly at the ceiling as if he could find the answers there. He heaved a sigh and shook his head. “Cho Kyuhyun, stop this foolishness. Romance is unexistent to you. You swore you’ll never fall in love again. Snap back to your senses. Stop being so affected. So what if that Yonghwa likes her? You won’t give a damn care. Even if they start dating, you wouldn’t care. You shouldn’t care.” He closed his eyes as he tried to inculcate those thoughts in mind.

RINGGG!!!

His phone rang and made its vibratory movements on the bedside table. His heart seemed to jump excitedly as he saw the name of the person calling him and he did not want that kind of reaction. That was when he realized that the heart was indeed involuntary for it does things that were against his master’s will. His mind told him not to be concerned of her but his heart felt otherwise.

“Seo, what do you need?”  Kyuhyun answered trying to sound as aloof as before.

“I am just informing you ahead that I have something to do this weekend, so if you have plans on meeting me during that time, please cancel it,” Seohyun said.

“Why, what are you gonna do?” He asked.

“I’ll be meeting a friend at the Namsan Park.” Seohyun replied. Kyuhyun immediately suspected that she was going to meet Yonghwa. He could sense it.

“No,” he blurted out.

“Eh? Waeyo?” Seohyun asked.

Aish! I’ve already told myself that I won’t care. I won’t care. I DON’T CARE.

“What I mean is… No, I have no plans. So you can go with your friend. If that’s the only thing you will say, I am gonna hung up now.” He immediately said, therefore refraining himself from asking for more details. Meanwhile, on the other line, Seohyun wondered why Kyuhyun did not try to argue like he usually did before.

“Yeah, that’s it. Thanks.”

Call ended.

“What’s up with him?” Seohyun asked herself.

“Yesung-ah, you are so slow just like your turtle. Make a move now.” An impatient Madame Cho told her grandson as she waited for him to move his chess piece. With his hand under his chin, Yesung took his time to consider his next move.

“I’m thinking about a perfect move, grandma,” he answered.

“But you are thinking of it for almost 5 minutes already.” His grandmother told him.

“Fine, grandma. Here I go,” Yesung reluctantly moved his piece.

“Checkmate. Grandson, you really need to practice more,” Madame Cho said with a smile of victory.

“See, I lose.” Yesung said, putting the blame on his grandmother for not letting him take his time. Madame Cho chuckled at his remark.

“In a real competition, there is limited time allotted for the players, if you consume all of it, you will forfeit the game,” Madame Cho reasoned out. “You have to make a move whatever the result will be. Anyway, there are only two possible things that will happen, either you win or lose… That’s also the same with life… and love. It’s either a yes or no.”

Yesung looked at his grandmother as she began to share some of her insights to him. “Grandma, what do you mean?” Yesung asked acting as if he did not know where this conversation would lead.

“Yesung-ah, sometimes, it is better to make a move and face the results boldly than cower in the corner and wait for an imaginary perfect time. Just like a game of chess, your time will soon run out. In the end, you might end up being the loser… by default. If I were you, I would confess to her as soon as possible. Yuri might get tired of waiting for you or worse, someone will suddenly arrive and take Yuri’s heart away from you forever.” Yesung stared in disbelief at his grandmother. “How does she know all these things?” That’s what he asked himself.

“H-how did you know?” He asked.

“I have existed in this world for so many years already for me not to sense it. Blame it to experience, my dear. Besides, your mom always tells me stories about you and Yuri when you were still kids. She really likes Yuri so much sometimes to the point that it gets annoying and creepy that she was even determined to find her and put you to an arranged marriage. Do you know that?” His grandmother said.

“Mom likes her that much?” That was a trivia for Yesung. He knew that she likes to ship them years back but he did not expect that his mother was willing to go to that extent.

“Yes, and I have to restrain her from doing that. She is really frustrated that you don’t get a girlfriend. Think about it grandson, don’t waste another opportunity.”

“I will, grandma. Thanks.” Yesung said. He was grateful for his grandmother to encourage him and for making him realize what could he be losing if he won’t make his move as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Madame Cho smiled as Yesung walked away. One love problem solved. His grandsons really need some push when it comes to their love life. Yesung was not much of a problem. The one that was more challenging was Kyuhyun. However, she could not blame him for being scared or hesitant to love since he has already been hurt before. She was certain that Kyuhyun chose not to take a risk anymore and instead became a person who was oblivious of the love that was unfolding between him and Seohyun.

“I hope some kind of magic will help me. I really believe that she’s the girl that will bring sunshine to his life.” Madame Cho sighed as she looked at the sun that was peeking out of the white cotton-shaped clouds on the blue sky.
