It was half past midnight and Ryo was taking a seat on Yamapi's extra comfy chair (reserved for patients). He was watching as the latter sorted the day's paperwork. They were both sleepy and tired now--it was a long day at work-- and Ryo tried to keep them both awake by telling retarded jokes and singing random songs.

Yamapi was about to file Kitayama U.'s paper under the released folder when he felt something warm and heavy against his arm; it was Ryo, whose chair was moved so he was as close as possible to Yamapi.

"Are you sleepy?" Yamapi asked gently, trying to go about sorting without disturbing Ryo's position much.

"Mmm." Ryo mumbled in reply. "Hey, Pi."

"Yes?" Takeda O.'s file also goes under the released folder.

"I think it's because I'm completely lacking brain cells right now and if it's that's not the case, then I apologize." Ryo began, as he lifted his head from Yamapi. "But I think I want to kiss you."

Yamapi's hand stopped just after he filed another patient's record. He slowly looked up from his papers to look at Ryo.

"Am I lacking brain cells too, or did you just tell me you wanted to kiss me?"

"Well, out of scientific interest." Ryo took a sudden interest in Nakajima R's file in front of him.

"Then I guess I don't mind." Yamapi said nonchalantly. Ryo whipped his head up so fast, he thought he'd break his neck. "I mean, if it's for the advancement of science then I'm willing to go through with it."

"Oh okay then." Ryo said in a small voice.

They just sat there for a few moments, staring at the various yet unsorted paperwork before them. Yamapi sighed, put Nakata K's file in its rightful place before throwing an exasperated look at his companion.

"Well?"

"Well what?"

"Aren't you going to kiss me?"

"You said 'yes' too fast I'm still reeling in shock."

"Well, if you aren't going to do it then I'll just continue sorting these out," there was tiny hint of disappointment in his voice; there would've been more, but Yamapi knew how to control his emotions.

When Yamapi grabbed Miyagata K's file, Ryo's hand was on it right after. When Ryo threw the file across the table, Yamapi gave him a  look that was a cross between confused and angry. But then Ryo told him, "Get yourself a secretary," before placing his lips on Yamapi's.

Yamashita Tomohisa was twenty-five years old.

But it was only now that he'd felt like a child. His past twenty-something years were spent pleasing his parents, and he figured that he'd deserved a break now. He felt smiling for reasons that don't really make sense; he was happy for things that didn't exist either, and he didn't care.

"That's right, Ukiya-san," Yamapi said, feeling a silly smile crawling up his lips as his eyes met Ryo's, who was walking down the hall. "Just take those pills for a few weeks and then we'll check if we need something stronger for you."

There was that glint on Ryo's eyes again, accompanied by that secretive smile that filled Yamapi's heart with that mysterious something. He shook his head and broke their connection, turning back to his patient.

Yamashita Tomohisa's childhood may have come a few years too late, but he figured the wait was worth it.

--

Their kisses are hot, or at least that's what Yamapi feels. It didn't matter where it took place--under the hot summer sun, in Yamapi's office, in Ryo's place, in a freezing room--that was the feeling it imparted. Not that Yamapi cared much. By the looks of it, Ryo felt the same way too.

Yamapi thrilled in hearing Ryo's breathy moans. Usually he was the one doing all the moaning, and he could feel Ryo's smirk on his skin; it was good to be on the hearing end today. They were slumped against Ryo's door; rather, Yamapi had his back against the frame and Ryo had him pinned there. They took their time. Slow, easy exploration mixed with light teasing and an insane amount of foreplay. Ryo seemed to be fine with taking his time, as today was their day off (Yamapi said it was his first day off in years).

Several hours later, they were sprawled on the bed with Ryo's white blanket pulled up against them. They ordered pizza for dinner.

--

For the first time in his life, Yamapi wanted to decline his father's offers. The way he felt now was much stronger than the ones he's encountered in the past--small, fleeting thoughts about disobeying his father. Maybe along with the happy, silly feelings this second childhood has given him, it's also given him courage.

"Tomohisa, move to America and continue to pursue your medical career there."

He sighed and straightened his back, and held the telephone just a tad bit tighter.

"I'll think about it, father."

He still couldn't say no though, but it was a start.

--

"My father called."

"What else is new?"

"He wants me to go to America."

"But you're doing just fine here."

"He said I'm not improving here. A change of scenery might do me some good."

"Bull. He's never seen you work. He's never visited you here, that much I know. How can you believe him?"

"He's a man with quite a lot of connections..."

"Why the hell are you defending him? Do you really want to leave?"

"I'm thinking about it..."

"I don't believe I'm hearing this."

A door slammed. A heart broke.

--

The hospital--and his office, his room, and everywhere, really--felt empty. Each day was turning into some dull routine and Yamapi detested it. He wanted to feel happy, light and carefree again; he had a feeling he gave that away when Ryo slammed the door behind him (even though they were at his place).

He really wanted to mend things, but he had no idea how to start.

"Tomohisa, it's been days now! Why haven't you given me a proper answer?"

"No, father, I won't go."

"What? But I already arranged everything for you in America--"

"Then have them canceled, please."

"I don't remember raising you to be disobedient."

Yamapi heaved a sigh.

"I don't remember being raised to let others think for me as well. I have my own mind, father. Let me use it."

"You're making a big mistake!"

"I'll just accept the consequences then."

Yamapi said a clipped goodbye and hung up. His heart was beating fast, and his hands were shaking a bit, but he felt good.

He definitely felt good.

--

"You wanted to see me?"

Yamapi took a deep breath and set down his papers. Yet again, for the twenty-sixth time this month (ten of those times for being a general ass to his patients; twenty-six of those times to generally make out with the head doctor), Nishikido Ryo stood in the middle of his office. He looked tired and irritable, and Yamapi thought that he looked thrice as dangerous in this state,

Still, he had to try.

"Nishikido-kun, we need to talk."

"About what, Yamashita-san?" Oh sarcasm. Ryo poured it in huge amounts when he was pissed and right now was absolutely no exception.

"Do you like me?"

That seemed to take him by surprise.

"What does that have to do with anything?" he replied, suddenly acting a little bit flustered. Yamapi found it cute.

"It has to do with everything."

"I think," Ryo begain, constantly shuffling his feet. "That you're too weak to stand up for yourself; you happily let other people tell you what to do and even though you don't want to do it, you still end up doing it. I think you're too stingy with your furniture, and you have awful taste in music. I think you're someone who tries too hard to make other people happy, at the expense of your own. I think your omelettes are too salty and you look disoriented when you just woke up. And I think. I think I like you a lot."

Yamapi smiled, somehow expecting this, somehow not.

"You're in luck Nishikido-kun, because I like you a whole lot too."

"You're still not going to America," a flash of vulnerability crossed Ryo's eyes. "Are you?"

"No," Yamapi said, enjoying saying the word. "No, I'm not."

"That's good."

--

Ryo's lips were on his neck and his white coat was now neatly hanging on one side of the closet. Yamapi arched against him, delighting as his various body parts rubbed with Ryo's. Hands were busy, and mouths were occupied. Yamapi felt like he was reaching his limit; it was too soon. He clutched at Ryo, hoping to slow him down, but to no avail. Then Ryo's hot breath was on his ear and he Yamapi felt oh so close...

"Hey Pi, I think I know what the 'P' in your name stands for," Ryo said, his statement punctuated with labored breaths. "P stands for perfect."

And then, Yamapi just let go.
