wildlotus2006 Today is a lovely day. On lovely days like this, Nino stays inside and plays with his favorite game console. With his body sprawled on the couch, Nino grunts and mutters incomprehensible words as he presses buttons on his DS, his fingers flying coordinatedly across the device.
His eyes are trained on the screen, taking in every detail of the game. He is oblivious to anything outside him and his game--to the answering machine gathering messages; to the cold breeze that brought the papers on his coffee table to the floor; to the vibrations his cellphone made with every new message recieved. Nino had his game and for now, he was concentrating on it.
Precious seconds are ticking, and soon it becomes minutes, which, in turn, becomes hours. Nino stares blankly at the screen, flashing GAME OVER in big bold letters. That was when he decided that he's killed enough time. He stands up from the couch and lets his eyes linger towards the phone, very aware of the red blinking light signalling a new message. Nino abruptly turns away.
It's not yet time.

It's been a long day, Sho decides. He can still remember with excruciating detail the matches that took place in the Olympics today. The adrenaline is coursing excitedly through his veins and though his body calls for sleep, his mind is wide awake. In the hotel room reserved for him, Sho takes his laptop and sits on the bed.
A relief passes through him when he sees he's recieved e-mails. It was much fun meeting all kinds of people from different continents in the world, but in the end, nothing can connect to him like the Japanese. In the sea of e-mails, all wishing him good luck (although Sho thinks that that should be for the athletes, not for him), he spots one from Ohno.
The e-mail was six lines long, telling Sho that he should stay safe and he'll be waiting for him to come home. Ohno rambles a bit about his new fishing rod and some more about Arashi before ending the mail. The one from Aiba is a bit longer; still the part telling him to work hard was present, and Aiba asks about the Chinese and how is China is it beautiful and was it large and did Sho get lost. Aiba ends the letter a bit reluctantly and Sho finds that funny. Jun's e-mail was sent much earlier--Jun was never late when it comes to such--and he talks about his interest in knowing what the country is like. The group's youngest asks about Sho's insights about the Olympics and tells Sho that they were all cheering from them back home.Yet again, Jun wishes Sho and the athletes good luck accompanied with the promise that he would also work hard.
Sho composes his replies with a silly, loopy grin.
Of course, he sort of expected that Nino would send him an e-mail too, but Sho tells himself that maybe Nino was busy (even though he was quite aware that Nino had a lot of free time this week).
--
Sometime during the night, Sho fell asleep beside his laptop, now flashing a window that said his email has been sent. When he sat up, he rubbed his eyes blearily and gazed at the screen again. He had hopes set on a mail--in truth, Sho would settle for anything--from Nino. He was disappointed to see there is none.
Sho turned off his laptop and went back to sleep.

"Sho-san?"
That unmistakable high-pitched voice. Why was Sho hearing it? In Sho's groogy mind, he is still in the realms of sleep so he thinks this is just another dream. Sho grunts unintelligently and shifts on his bed.
"Sho-san?"
There it is again. Sho opens one eye groggily, and looks around. He is alone, as far as his eyes can tell. But he hears the voice again and Sho feels frustrated because he can't find out where it's coming from. If this is all a dream then Sho would be majorly pissed, since he has high hopes that Nino is somewhere in his room (seriously, nothing is impossible for that man anymore).
Fortunately, he is correct. His cellphone, lying beside him, is receiving a call from Nino. Sho has no recollection of Nino calling him and him picking up. Or maybe--oh no, please don't say it is so--he called Nino while he was asleep?
"Nino-kun?" Sho clears his throat and rubs his eyes. The clock nearby tells him it was four in the morning.
"Finally, you answered properly."
"By any chance did I call you?" There is a slight hint of embarrassment in Sho's voice and he is ready to apologize in case that was what happened.
"Uh no." came the slightly delayed reply. "I did."
"Oh." For a moment, there was a silence, before Sho continues, "So, what's up?"
"I just wanted to tell you to work hard."
"I will," the reply is accompanied by a chuckle. "You do know the time difference right? And yet you chose now to say that."
"It was time."
"Time? Time for what?"
"Time for you to miss me."
"Nino-san, Nino-san, it's too early to say such things." Even though Sho couldn't wipe the smile off his face and he's pretty sure he could hear the smile in Nino's voice as well.
