He didn't believe in the paranormal. Ghosts, spirits, devils, angels and the like. It all seemed surreal to him. He had been too rooted in reality and his imagination hasn't made an effort in a long time, but that was perfectly fine with him. He didn't need things like that; didn't need them to feel better nor to live better. What is the sense of believing in those things in the first place?

"Yes, what is it?" it was seven in the morning, he was running late, his coffee wasn't ready yet, and where were his shoes?

On his doorstep was man who was everything he wasn't. That was, calm, cheerful and in white. He was smiling, like it was a pleasant day (which it really wasn't) and somehow, though it shouldn't be, it mocked him.

"Matsumoto Jun." the man in white said. By the looks of it, he was in the late twenties, with soft features that seemed to belong to a woman. His hair covered his nape and he had brown, brown eyes that seemed too expressive for their own good. There was a homey feeling about him, something that Jun felt but was too grumpy to acknowledge.

"Yes, that's me, what is it?"

"Oh. Good morning to you."

"Excuse me, I'm really busy so if you can spit it out what you want--"

"I know." was this man deliberately annoying him or something? He was definitely succeeding.

"That's nice. Now if you have nothing further to say, I need to get ready for wo--"

"I know everything about you." man in white continued, that peaceful smile on his face. Jun considered for a moment if he was one of those deluded types. Maybe a stalker.

"Pardon me?"

"I'm your guardian angel." he said it so simply, so honestly, that it almost felt real. Almost. Jun forced a smile then shut the door with a slam. His pulse raced and he willed himself to calm down. It was getting late. His coffee should be ready now.

But in him, he knew. He knew that even though it made no sense to believe in angels--and devils and whatever else there was--he fiercely wanted to believe. He's not sure why, but he does.

Matsumoto Jun was a normal guy. He was an engineer (and he was not quite sure how he ended up as one), and for four years now, he's been contented with that. Every morning, he took his car for a thirty minute drive to his office. Today was no exception.

Upon reaching his desk, Jun readied his papers, mentally making a to-do list. On a small piece of paper, he wrote down his list and pinned it up a nearby corkboard. Noting that the girl beside him was late yet again, Jun took a moment to rest. The woman's name was Himiko and she was three years older than Jun. She was the one who usually kept track of the construction projects going on, and was one of the very few females in the workplace.

Jun got ready to work when Himiko arrived. There was something about her that Jun didn't like and though many of his coworkers found Himiko attractive, Jun failed to see that. Today, when she donned a business like outfit--with a crisp white blouse and a short a-line skirt--Jun felt that dislike again.

"Matsumoto-san," Himiko rushed to her desk excitedly. "You have to introduce me to that guy."

"What guy?"

"That guy who was looking for you at the front desk,"

"I didn't know somebody was looking for me."

"Well, he was chatting it up with Aiko so I am not surprised that she hasn't informed you yet," Himiko rolled her eyes in obvious jealousy for Aiko, who was the one who usually communicated with the clients.

"Did he mention his name? What did he look like?" In case it was a client looking for more information, Jun readied his papers.

"Well, he was in white and--"

Jun's lips tightened in a straight line and he picked up his phone to call Aiko, down in first floor.

"Yes, Aiko. I am aware that a man in white is looking for me. Do not entertain him. Call security if you must." beside him, Himiko made a surprised noise and started asking questions and oh how Jun wanted to make her shut up. He hung up, ignored Himiko, and for the nth time today, he wanted this day to end.
