alternate realities, if different choices had been made, if different things had happened, if different people said different things.
It's decidedly eerie, yet... addictive. I've watched the mirror for a while now. Everytime you look away, it'll show you a different possibility. Some better than others.
Near was sitting in front of the mirror silently, idly talking to people in his thoughts, his eyes watching the images that flitted across the glass. It was fascinating, really, to see how one change could do so very much to everything around.
In this one, death in the Empyrean was possible, and he had died from his head wound. Mello was screaming at his corpse, shaking it violently, while Matt was off to the side, looking ill.
He looked away, looking back to see a new vision. This time, L was a girl.
The mirror was fascinating. Odd, but fascinating. Near didn't think he ever wanted to leave.
Matt lit a cigarette as his boots rhythmically thudded down the stairs, the lobby, the location of the circus stretched ahead. Had it always been this big? By big, of course, he meant huge, because no lobby he'd seen before would be able to fit an entire circus inside it. With a casual shrug, he navigated the area, peering around corners until he saw Near seated in front of a mirror. Must have been the 'fascinating' mirror he was talking about.
Just by his posture Matt could tell Near had probably been there a long time. Taking a deep breath, he walked over, crossing his arms in front of him, peering down at the boy rather than into the glass, still unsure if he even wanted to see an alternate reality. "Hey."
Mello wasn't in a very good mood when he reached the place. Near had been acting oddly, too amazed at only god knew what the hell he had discovered in a mirror that only told lies.
Mello knew how tempting it was to find an alternate version of the disaster, the ruins that his life was, but he knew better than letting himself be seduced by something that wasn't real. He'd rather face the life he had chosen than finding comfort in something as dangerous as alluring.
"Near," was his way to announce his presence, standing in front of the other boy and eating a chocolate bar.
Near's eyes broke contact with the mirror as two seperate greetings reached him from either side. He turned around, eyes seeing both Matt and Mello arriving from different directions at the same time, a slight smile twisting his lips as they stopped in front of him.
"You two came," he said needlessly, an odd look in his eyes. "I knew you would..."
He glanced back at the mirror; a new vision where Mello had blown up the Empyrean, with everyone inside homeless and starving. He looked away again, his eyes refocussing on the two.
"Shall we play a game with it?" he said, twirling a lock of hair with his fingers. "Whatever we see in the mirror, we have to share with everyone else. We can take turns."
