wow. this just totally broke me, in all the right ways.
some writers are afraid to go the route of separating the main pairing, even when by all rights the main pairing really has no business being together at that point, but you didn't shy away from it here. even when Draco was comforting Harry, and there was this small glimmer of hope that he would say yes, okay, let's try again, I think I knew somewhere that that wouldn't be right, and I was glad when Draco said no. that was really brave.
this was absolutely beautiful; you just carefully took apart a whole relationship and left us with the pieces, and a really bittersweet, perfect ending. honestly, I can go on all night about how amazing this was, and thank you for writing it!
I felt really tentative about posting this because, well, it is H/D, except, well, it's not. And I loved writing it from Harry's POV because it's just so tragic, being in love with someone who isn't in love with you, this hope that doesn't quite die until you hear those terrible words. And I knew from the beginning that there wasn't going to be any reconciliation here -- it just didn't feel right, not in this piece. You're complete right -- they just have 'no business being together' here because H/D was never meant to be one-sided like this.
Basically, thank you for this entire comment (it made my day!) and I'm so glad you felt the ending suited the whole piece -- I kept having to fight against the temptation to just get them back together!
Brilliant story...of course! All that coiled angst and misery, and then a sweet, easy release. We all do go on, even when we half-wish we didn't. But this light ending--it was so hopeful. It did me good to read it.
I'm sorry for my late arrival here, I never saw this on my Friends page somehow. Mea culpa! I'm just delighted to see you posting. :)
And thank you, that means a lot coming from you :).
And I actually have a 16K word WiP that I've started, and I'd love for you to take a look at it if you're interested/have the time. I will get around to e-mailing you, it's been on my to-do list for a few months now :).
Yes, this is very late! I'm just sorry that I hadn't discovered this earlier!
I just wanted to say that this fic was brilliant! I saw your works over at the HP Unfaithful comm and fell in love with your writing. I came on your journal, hoping to find more angsty Drarry fics and this one did not disappoint!
I wish there were more writers like you who deviate from the Drarry norm. Angst is always good! Especially when we're talking about Drarry. I love how IC your Harry and Draco were. It only made your fic even more realistic. I only wish that you wrote more Drarry. :( But I ship Merlin/Arthur, too, so I guess I'll be checking your other fics out. :D
Oh gosh, thank you so much! You're super lovely; I remember being so, so nervous about posting this because it's a break-up story, and who wants to read that? And yes, :( I've sort of left HP these days, I get sort of sad when I realize how long it's been since I wrote in that fandom, haha.
