i need a new book

Jan 07, 2012 23:01

I need new books to listen to while I drive to my friends' store 3 days a week since it's 30 minutes each way and it's getting to be long and boring especially in the dark on the way home. The problem is I don't want something I will love because I'm still obsessing over the Hunger Games and I am not quite ready to let that go. LOL

I checked out boom_queen' ( Read more... )

Cool! I'm downloading the first book now and I think I will give it a try. Thanks! 7 books is quite a commitment but I guess I'll have the time in the car :)

I got nothing, but I see Pi has recc'd something so now I'm gonna have to look that series up. Because I'm in the same boat - the wanting a new series/book boat that is.

I got a lot of recs on fb but a bunch seem a bit heavier than I want right now so I am starting with the one Pi suggested. I'll let you know what I think.

Not going to be much help since I've bern on a YA distopian fic kick lately. Haven't read Matched yet, but it's on my list. Just finished Divergent recently, which was good (by Veronica Roth). Also YA, but more alt world than distopian - Un Lun Dun by China Mieville. Same theme, but adult version - Neverwhere by Niel Gaiman. And if you haven't read them yet, the Mortal Instrument and Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare about teenage demon hunters in modern day London and 1800's London.

I do like dystopian and I def wouldn't mind hearing which are worth reading, I just need to spread them out a bit. :)

Thanks for those. I will look into them and see if I can get them as mp3s from my library.

Only other YA distopian one I've read lately is Enclave by Ann Agguire. Also good, and a trilogy but only the first book is out so far. So not as many as I'd thought, but with the Hunger Games, that's three YA distopian fics for me with some more on tap. Liking them, but with you on it being time for a break from that particular sub-genre.

On to regular sci fi, I'd also recommend checking out the Dresden File books by Jim Butcher about a wizard private detective in Chicago. He's up to book 13 or so of about 20. It's a bit noir-ish, but plenty of magic and mystical creatures as well. The first book is called Storm Front and all of the audio books except the most recent are narrated by James Marsters.

Depends if you're looking for YA Lit (which I recommend: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White, SO GOOD, kinda of reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but... like not, lol), if you're looking for something more weight-y I suggest continuing with the Sword of Truth series ;).

Other then that I got nothing. I'm currently reading the end of a YA Lit werewolf series (Linger, Shiver, Forever by Maggie Stiefvater) which is good and I've enjoyed it but not a favorite of mine.

I think all I want to read now is YA! I'll look into Paranormalcy :)

Aw, thanks. I actually have Outlander already but I think I am the only person in the whole world that didn't love it. It could have been the reader though so if I am going to try it again I am going to have to actually read it I think. :)
