One thing I've learned from working with a lot of young leaders is that people do good shit for all kinds of reasons.
Some excerpts:
"I prefer not to be a leader, but if I need to be a leader, I will" "I think it's great, the feeling of actually making a difference, rather than just sitting back" "if you are aware of this as an issue, and understand that it's part of people's lives, you have a responsibility to make it part of your life in a way that positively impacts that situation" "especially when you have the time and the money and the awareness, it's a responsibility" "I wanted something more hands on and to have a lot of people involved" "the active community is supportive of each other because we're working towards the same goals" "I learned about stuff in classes, now I feel personally responsible to go do something about it. It makes me feel better because I know I'm doing something"
I don't believe that people are bad or not generous, I guess I just was venting about generosity being automatically equated with buying things for people at Christmastime.
These days, for me especially, it would almost seem more generous to share something personal with someone, something intangible, an emotion, to be open and caring or to express a need for love and desire to be closer to someone... Or to give something that I really love to someone else, like a favorite book I think they'd like. I dunno, I agree that this Christmas shit is whakz0r
