New kitty time!!

Well, after my brother (bakazaru) got back from Japan, he took his kitty, Wick, back to his new place. Simon seemed out of sorts and our place was oddly empty without her so we got a new second kitty. Her name is Lyra, after the main character of the Golden Compass series. Her slight resemblance to Wick (long haired brown tabby with white) is completely unintentional, as we hadn't even seen her when we went to pick her up. We found her on Craigslist. She's just over 2 years old and is the sweetest, most affectionate cat I've seen in a long time. A bit demanding at times (kept us up most of the night begging for snuggles) but she's stressed out so that's no surprise.

You can't tell from the photos but she's actually a bit smaller than your average cat. The fluffiness counteracts that nicely but her frame is quite small. Her meow, however, is TINY. Loud, but very very high pitched and squeaky. kind of like a laser gun, heh.

Her owner found her with her tail frozen in the snow a year and a half ago. She got on well for a while but the owner's longtime companion cat started terrorizing this kitty and not allowing her out of the kitchen, so after a few months of that the owner decided to get a new home for her.

We haven't let Simon and Lyra interact much. The bedroom is Lyra's "safe" room and we keep the door shut. we've let them see each other a few times and there's a bit of hissing, though they seem equally afraid of each other so I'm sure in time they'll get along fine.

In other news:
Next week classes start again. I'm really not sure how I feel about that. They should be interesting and all, but I only really got one month's summer vacation, plus for most of that month I was recovering from surgery, so pleh. I guess we'll see how things go.

Speaking of recovering from surgery, I had my second post-op appointment today. My surgeon told me that they removed 1200g from my left breast and 1100g from my right, totaling 2300g, or 5.07 POUNDS.
No wonder I feel better.
My surgeon also said that I'm healing wonderfully and said it's now ok for me to do light exercise (walking, elliptical machine, stationary bike). She removed all of my stitches, so I feel less of a frankenboob. Heh.
I do not in any way regret this surgery, even a tiny bit. Sure, laying around for two weeks was boring, sure it was (is) painful, sure I'll be recovering for a full year, but I feel SO MUCH BETTER, both physically and emotionally. I feel like this is how I'm supposed to be (well, plus about 40 lbs lighter :P). It's grand. :D
