My stance is currently being questioned over at anti_porn. I don't mean for that to sound as if I'm being interrogated, it seems to be more of a WTF? explain please? situation ( Read more... )

In my opinion (feel free to slate, as you wish) is that the whole idea of feminism was about equality, which therefore includes males in the whole thing. It's about seeing men and women as equals, which would lead to your idea about being worried about people as a group in the porn industry instead of just women completely valid and not necessarily anti-feminist and more likely embracing the whole equality jazz. Sorry if that makes no sense it's kinda awkward to explain.

As a feminist, I can say that the real reason behind me being a feminist is that there still are HUGE differences in for example salary between the genders. In my old job I earned 60 % less than the men who did the exact same job as me, not better or worse, but they had cocks between their legs ( ... )

agreement with the above comment. I've talked with my friend Kate about this loads.

I personally believe feminism is about equality. So your point would therefore be valid. Maybe its time for a de genderisation of what a feminist is. its more an equalist and if your not about equalism then you cant really be feminist. What i mean by that is you cant say men are wrong (back in the day) when it used to be very male dominated when you want an elitist women thing.

ive always thought it as both being equal and in some ways erasing gender in that respect. obv physical things cant be erased but mental attitues like women/men can do this because they are a woman/man.

ok that probs didnt make and sense what so ever...

As a guy and not a feminist, one of my big issues with most porn is the constant labeling of women as "sluts" and "whores" and "bitches" and whatever other derogatory terms they can come up with, while guys are touted as "studs" and "lucky" and "players". That, along with so much porn being of the 'girl gets used and abused for the entertainment of a man/multiple men(while it's clear she's getting zero enjoyment out of it, nor do the guys appear to care about that little detail)' variety makes it all very unpleasant. I cannot fathom treating a girl-- or any sexual partner-- like that. I actually wrote about this very thing not too long ago in my LJ. And I don't understand guys who think this sort of thing is "hot" and how women should be viewed-- and the unfortunate reality is a lot of guys DO think that way ( ... )

Hah. I always tell people who ask that I'm a buddhist - but the worst buddhist in the history of buddhism. that usually shuts them up.
