I've never had experience with them, but it absolutely, completely disgusts me that mormons donated 25 MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS to the Yes on 8 advertising campaign.
In some respects, considering the way our country's economy is doing.. it sort of disgusts me the amount of money that needed to be spent on both sides. NOT TO MENTION the millions and billions of taxpayer dollars that are being wasted on continually putting this on the ballot and then having to repeal again in a supreme court.
Basically, ignornance is costing us millions of dollars.
I have to echo your astoundedness that minorities such as African Americans, Eastern Europeans, AND Mormons are trying to abolish other people's rights. If we can "amend" our constitution in such a way, what's to stop people from adding the word "white" to the definition of marriage? Or "Christian?" Can't people realize this
( ... )
True that! Plus, I would totally vote for the right to recognize polygamy as being legit, too. Mormons need to check themselves before they wreck themselves..
you stole the words right out of my mouth. ...only you made everything more coherent and angrier. thx for that.
i wish i was more on the ball about opposing this BEFORE the election. i was stupidly confident that CA would not pass such a horrible prop. dumb dumb dumb.
Nobody asked me, but I think if a solid wedge was inserted between the idea of 'marriage' (left as a religious ceremony of no real significance, permitted or denied at the whim of the church) and 'civil union' or some similar phrase, things might go a little easier. Cede them the word, and whatever ideas are attached to it, and just keep the cold hard legality. It's not much of a ruse, but we're not talking about brilliant minds here, as a rule..
