Generally a second job gets hugely taxed that you have to decide if it's really worth it. HECs...that I'm not sure on. It's either the second job thing or you're over the minimun yearly gross amount and automatically have to start paying it. I think I'm still a few grand short before I have to start paying it. Not that I completed my course...still have to pay for the one year I did do -_- Do some research into it. Perhaps you'll do better saving up and paying HECs in a lump sum. They usually knock a few hundred off it if you pay in full. Everyone wants a worker's hard earned money. Bastards *shakes fist*

Noooo, me monies... :(

I have no idea why I'm already paying my HECs - maybe they multiplied out this one off big payday and said, hey, she's over the limit! When I'm really, really not.

My Dad has plans for my full-time pay next year: he's going to keep paying the bills, and I get to put all my hard earned cash into a lump-sum to repay the government for 5 and a half years of pain. Don't I feel lucky :s

Really, I guess it could be worse... I wonder if I'll get any of it back next in next years tax return ::sigh::

Perhaps you should plan to pay a little extra tax just to make sure. When I moved to Melvourne a few years back, I ended up losing my job and going on the dole. Because I'd been working and on the dole I ended up having to pay out tax that year. Sucked greatly. Better to break even or get some back than be paying it out.

Don't forget to save for Y-con *grin* You'll make it to SF one year soon.

Y'know, the fact that we have to pay even more tax to the government when we hand on our tax returns, on top of all the tax they take through out year, is the meanest invention of modern day society...! I love getting tax back; for some reason it feels like a 'win' against the government. But thanks for the advice, I'll keep some money in reserve just in case.

And yes! Must get to Y-con one year! If I had more money and someone to go with this year would've been ideal since I don't have a permanent position yet. Maybe next year when K finishes...? Around what date in October is it usually? It does seem a bit ridiculous that we need to go overseas to meet all our online friends who live in the same country as us >_o

'Cos we can't go to Y-con this year, K and I have been going to every other convention we can reasonably afford that's in driving distance (damn flights cost so much). We're looking at Supanova end of October, but we're not sure yet...
