NAME & USERNAME: Jade Curtiss / Necromancer
SERIES: Tales of the Abyss
PERSONALITY: Jade isn't your typical smart guy with glasses type. In fact, he is pretty complex. He can be a smartass at times because he comes up with replies that a) make people shut up, b) think of a way to answer back at him, c) annoy people, d) to rub a certain fact on people. He only does that when he wants to tease people though. If he's serious or not in the mood for 'fun', he treats people with respect and will not leave any room for personal amusement. He can be pretty straightforward at times too. If he has something to say, he will say it. He believes that trust should be earned and is not just a one-time show, so he's not the kind who would trust people easily. At the same time, since Jade puts up such a carefree and sarcastic front, it's hard to trust him as well since all he does is smile and act like everything is nothing.
He dislikes boring things, such as explaining detailed and long explanations, thus passing the job to another person, despite his intelligence regarding that matter and such. He also does not like people who are a) stupid, b) impulsive, and c) obnoxious, and therefore, he gives those kinds of people a heart-warming present, such as, the wall.
Expounding on the 'complex personality' bit, Jade has different sets of attitudes he shows to different groups of people. He will act a certain personality when he is with around this kind of person, but will immediately switch to this kind of personality when with another. Not saying that he has MPD though! As mentioned already, he doesn't trust people easily, and will therefore be wary whenever he's with around people. He puts up a very serious and business-like type front whenever he is with people he should be serious with, or people who he does not know very well. Once he loosens up to a person, however, he starts becoming friendly in his own way. He becomes sarcastic, sardonic, snarky and whatnot to the person and will most definitely offer rude remarks and pretend that he did not make them. Those rude remarks, are also most evident when he is with people who he trusts, and at time, not fond of. In Abyss, he pretty much is a bastard and is more of a bastard to Luke compared to anyone else. He isn't afraid to tease as well.
And in-game, he isn't afraid of being himself either.

AU BACKGROUND: A long time ago, existed a young man named Jade Balfour! Jade Balfour was a very studious person and had always spent his time cooped up in the library of their house studying for hours and hours, not even noticing the light of day or the darkness of night-- if such exists, at least. He did go to school, however! He was a highly educated young boy, and the same applies to his sister (only she was a highly educated young lady). This was when Jade Balfour was still living with his real family. He was always the high achiever, and had always wanted the truth. Now, his yearning for truth shows up in his extensive numbers of research. He researches a lot about science and whatnot, and he was known in his country for this! So well-known, that even some people from Hypnagogy had heard of him! Which was why they decided to send him a letter to come to the country as a certain family would fund his research, just as long as his research is based in that said country.
That family was the Curtiss family.
Of course, Jade had happily agreed to this as facts were what he desired for the most. He moved to Hynagogy to continue his studies and changed his last name to Curtiss. He met three people that changed his life (for the better or worst, no one knows) when he moved: Saphir, Peony, and Nebilim. Saphir and Peony were just about the same age as he was, though Nebilim was older. Lucky for him, two of these people (Saphir and Nebilim) were also interested in Jade's research so they decided to help! Nebilim, having studied about what Jade was studying on knew more, which Jade thought was very admirable. He therefore showed Nebilim a lot of respect. Saphir, on the other hand was just being a pest, which was why Jade wasn't so fond of him. He still valued him as a friend though, just not that much.
One fateful day years later, when the three of them had taken a break from research, they were introduced to a certain MMORPG (that was just newly created, by the way!) by Peony. Oh yes, it is indeed Sol Invictus. They all started at the same time and had always partied together. Peony wasn't always around, so the party was always just the three of them with no one bickering about who gets to partner with who for a two-person party instead of three. Saphir, Jade and Nebilim from then on, played the game always at a certain time. They all leveled up together, joined events together. The three of them were inseparable.
And with every online life, comes real-life drama! Nebilim all of a sudden stopped going to Jade's study and research was just done by Jade and Saphir. Jade was not one to intervene with many things, so he just thought that Nebilim was taking a sick leave for a few days. But she never came back for reasons unknown. She never went online and played with them after work either. It aggravated him. He admired Nebilim so much, and all of a sudden, the person he respects the most just disappears. Admiration and inspiration were two different things, but for Jade, it was the same thing. He had lost the will to work, mostly. Adding more to his annoyance was Saphir who kept on saying negative speculations about Nebilim's disappearance. Eventually, Jade distanced himself from Saphir as he thought that he was being a pest to him and not helping at all. He had only stuck with him because of Nebilim, anyway.
Nebilim never did leave any trace of her disappearance. Nobody in Hypnanogy knew what was happening as well, nor did those who they (Jade, Saphir, Peony and Nebilim) interacted with in the online game. Jade lost contact, though he never did give up. He played the game by himself, ignoring Saphir all the time and never joined forces with him. He would occasionally play with Peony, whenever he was around. Just. No to Saphir. He would wait up until the wee hours of the morning, leveling up and just playing the game like how a normal person would by himself, waiting for Nebilim to magically sign on. Or maybe just come back, in general.
