A pretty good weekend. The first Mage: The Ascension game of the year, a bit of hanging out with friends, plenty of Sara time. (At the moment, we're Netflixing The Gilmore Girls, and streaming Red Dwarf) Yesterday, Sara, Becky and I went to the Montgomery Mall for shoes and sundries. I discovered Song of Ice and Fire this summer and it has changed my literary world. I even named my new computer Daenerys, finally breaking my pattern of naming electronics after Shakespeare characters. I love this series, in the same giddy childish way that I loved The Hobbit when I read it the first time when I was about 10. I just ate it up.

And, if you're referencing the moment I think you are, then cannon to the gut was an excellent way to put it.

It's a great book, but the RW is arguably the lynchpin of the novel. The next closest thing, in terms of emotional pow, is the coin with which Dany purchases the Unsullied, and even that doesn't have the deadening impact of knowing that you need to find a new team to root for.

Apparently, Martin actually wrote the entire rest of the book, then went back to that one chapter, because he knew it would be the hardest part of the book to get through.

RW is definitely a hugely defining moment. I also think of that other one because I'm such a fan of Tyrion and it's such a tremendous moment in his character's development. I miss him so much in Feast for Crows! Though Jamie's POV is pretty great too.
