Monsters vs Aliens
Afternoon off classes was win. Who could argue with a free afternoon? Sure, there was always the library to bury oneself in hours of dedicated study, but Chris needed a timeout. He also had to do something he had been covertly putting off for weeks now. Or maybe even months. Either way, he was extremely proud of himself for the secret agent business he had been pulling off. He had been in Princeton almost three weeks now, and had managed to keep his presence there a secret from one person who should have know months ago he was Princeton-bound.
His big sister.
Chris smirked to himself as he adjusted his bag strap over his shoulder and made his way casually up the front path. It wasn't his fault he had a devious streak, and arguably, he probably got it off his sister anyway. So, technically, it was her fault. Same as it was her fault when the bathroom got flooded when he was eight years old. It had nothing to do with the pink Power Ranger doll he shoved down the toilet because pink was for girls. Or the Ken doll he shoved down there as an afterthought to rescue her. It was George's Ken doll, so therefore, it was her fault. Chris' mind always had a way of analysing and reasoning out everything soundly. It was probably a lot of why he ended up scoring a top place in an Ivy League college Engineering course. As far as he was concerned, everything had a route of operation; it just had to be discovered.
So, that was part of the reason he had kept his college news from his sister. He wanted to surprise her, and he had always been good at keeping secrets too. There were things even his mates in Elementary School had told him that he would take to the grave. He had actually told George he got into an Education degree at the University of California. She had been disappointed, because he had originally told her he was going to apply for Princeton or some colleges in New York so they would be able to see more of each other. But she was proud of him. He could eat dirt creatively, and she would be proud of him. There was nearly ten years age difference between them, but that never made any difference. They were always close, and they would always protect each other with their lives.
There was just a tiny flaw in his plan, though. Night-shift. George was a nurse, and Chris knew she worked regular nights, especially lately when she had been in charge of her department when her boss she was 2IC to had taken ill. When Chris knocked on his sister's front door, there was no answer. Maybe she was in there getting it on with someone? Chris scrunched up his face and stuck his tongue out a little. It was hard for him not to want to deck any dude who had impure thoughts about his big sister. Still, that was another reason Chris was here right now and hadn't waited to visit her like he planned. He had other news too. Big, big news. News he promised to tell her as soon as it happened...
But now she wasn't answering, and Chris gave a small huff of frustration. This was why he was studying to be an Engineer and not a bloody private detective! He leaned down, flipping open her mail box flap and trying to peer inside. If he called out, he would wake her up and that would be all his months of planning foiled. It took a few moments of thought before he was climbing over the fence and jumping into her backyard. There had to be a spare key somewhere. In fact, he knew there was, because she had told her parents, but Chris just never thought to ask where it was. But he was male, he was allowed to have brain farts like that. It didn't matter eventually, though, because he found a window open and grinned mischievously when he spotted it. He was neatly inside her house with little fuss a few moments later, brushing some dirt off his jeans he had collected from the windowsill. He dumped his bag on the floor of the hall and tiptoed into the living room.
As soon as he got there, though, he spotted a guy's jacket and t-shirt slung over the back of the sofa. Chris' eyebrows shot up. Maybe she really did have company? He peered back out into the hall and strained his ears. If there were sex noises, he was so out of there. But it was quiet and he bit the bullet to head up the hall towards George's bedroom. The door was open a little, so he pressed his fingertips against it to push it open further. He stifled a sigh of relief. She was alone, but she was dead to the world, her face smushed into the pillow and the covers all bunched up on one side. She might not have company now, but Chris was sure that was a man's cologne he could smell. A Big Sister Interrogation was probably going to be in order. He probably should just go and come back later, but now that he was here, he was bored with the secret keeping. His attention span for this sort of thing was only as good as it lasted. Once something came to a head, he was ready to move onto the next project.
He yawned a little, feeling tired at seeing her sleeping, so he just shrugged and kicked off his shoes to crawl onto the bed beside her. He had spent countless times over their life falling asleep on his sister's bed. It was a natural action for him and he settled into a comfortable spot to wait. It was barely five minutes later, that Chris had unknowingly shifted into a mirrored position of his sister's, face smushed into the pillow with his arm hanging off the side, comfortably asleep just like they had been when they were kids.
