in character information.

series: Assassin’s Creed
name: Malik A-Sayf
sex: Male
age: 26
height: 6’0”
weight: 155
canon point: In canon: Shortly after Altair’s second Jerusalem assassination of Majd Addin.
In CS: After his bonding with Isolde and apology with Altair.

previous cr:

Altair: Malik’s relationship in CS with Altair did not start off swimmingly. Malik was still very angry for all that had happened at Solomon’s Temple, and though he was more open minded about Altair thanks to his actions and work while assassinating Majd Addin in canon he was still quick to point out Altair’s flaws and mistakes. Viciously, of course. Despite that Altair was the only piece of home he had in space and the two began living in the same suite, working together better than could probably have been hoped.

Then the tension hit a head when Malik caught the space plague. He was feverish and close to death when Altair learned of this and came to him, wanting to somehow help. Malik insisted he not try anything, especially making a deal with the Sith. Malik ended up snapping at Altair over Solomon’s Temple and his brother’s death, and Altair left to secretly join the Sith and get Malik his cure. Malik was extremely angry about this of course but could not deny that Altair had sacrificed a great deal to help someone other than himself. That put a greater seed of doubt in Malik’s mind about Altair’s past actions, beginning to open his eyes more to how much Altair had changed.

Altair was caught betraying the Sith and tortured, and Malik joined the effort to save him and Catty. He then made sure to keep an eye on Altair as he recovered and mother hen the hell out of him. During this time there was an event that made Altair project his thoughts while Malik was unaffected. They ended up having a talk where Malik began to see first hand how much Altair left unsaid and how much he truly had changed. The conversation left Malik with a lot to think about, since he could no longer deny that Altair was a different man from the one who ruined him.

The two plan to begin a new Brotherhood in space, and around that time Malik is bonded to Isolde. Her light side influence is one of the final pushes Malik needs to finally confront Altair and the two get through their apologies. This leaves Altair as more of a friend and brother than the tension before allowed, and though there would probably always be some tension (and always, always some snarking) Malik was ready to give this new Altair a chance.

Catty: When Catty and Altair were tortured by the Sith Malik was one of the ones who came along with the rescue party. He did not meet Catty officially until after they all returned to Coruscant, where he recognized her post and offered to bring her tea.

Catty’s stubbornness and age remind him of his brother’s and he can’t help but get somewhat brotherly to her. Her wit and personality help, he respects her for not backing down and she is able to handle him without giving in to his snarking or taking said snarking too harshly. She is the first person he tells about the new Order they plan on making and aside from Altair is growing to be one of the people he trusts most in CS.

Isolde: Malik meets Isolde on the rescue mission and grows to respect her. They speak about sword fighting and Isolde eventually convinces Malik to come spar/train with her despite his one arm. He agrees, and timing happens to suck because one of Isolde’s bonded people, Lily, had just been killed and she is in a hard state of mind.

This ends with them being bonded, something that Malik is utterly perplexed and a bit irritated by. Isolde has the tendency to force bond with people easily, and people bonded to her tend to be influenced heavily by her. Her light side influence, of course, influences him, making him somewhat more forgiving and patient than he would be. Malik still respects Isolde and, like all her bond dudes, will come to care quite deeply for her and have a great amount of loyalty to her. Since he’s taken very shortly after this all happens it won’t be quite as strong or settled as it would be.

Ezio: Ezio was one of the first people Malik met at CS. His scar gave Malik pause and after some time they manage to figure out the other is an Assassin and meet. Malik respects Ezio, finding him respectful in return and quick to learn and understand situations. Ezio is one of the first people Malik goes to when shit goes down in space and he considers the other a brother of the Order completely.

history: Here’s Malik’s canon history and actions.

CS History: Malik starts off in CS confused then ultimately accepting the situation, meeting Ezio and deciding then to try and gain more intel on everything around him. Altair’s arrival shortly after throws him for more of a loop but is ultimately a blessing to have some piece of home with him. They eventually move to the same suite and Malik continues working to gather resources and information.

And then the space plague happens. A sickness spreads and no cure is immediately available, though the Sith offer a cure for those who join their ranks. Malik is close to death when Altair joins the Sith to get him the cure and save his life, something that Malik is not at all pleased about. Eventually Altair and another who joined for the cure and ultimately betrayed the Sith are captured and their torture is broadcasted. Malik learns of a group going to try and rescue them and insists on joining as well. It’s on the ride there that he meets Isolde.

Altair and Catty are rescued and brought back to Coruscant where Malik keeps an eye on Altair and meets Catty officially. There are some misadventures at a festival when Altair performs a leap of faith off the ferris wheel but other than that things go smoothly. Well, smoothly until Altair is affected by a force rip event and projects his thoughts. It’s then that he and Malik have a long discussion about why Altair gave himself to the Sith and the pair’s relationship improves somewhat, getting much closer to forgiveness on Malik’s part.

The last two big events that happen begin with Isolde accidentally force bonding with Malik when they go to train. This connection and influence is one of the final straws in Malik finally forgiving Altair, the second of the big events before he’d be taken to abax.

personality:

Malik is a strong, proud man from the start. He tends towards being rather ornery, even disagreeable when faced with those he does not care for. This is, in part, due to his 'no shit' attitude, as he isn't one to deal with foolishness or trickery. In this way he is a man not afraid to speak his mind, and not afraid to speak up against or stand up against those who he truly believes to be in the wrong. This makes him seem fairly cold to some, though he is fully capable of changing his opinion and, even if he can hold a grudge, he is also is able to let a grudge go.

Despite this strong will Malik adhere and perhaps even bows to the law of the assassin's Creed. He has a deep respect for it's tenets and follows them to the letter, shaping his life around their teachings. He is so invested in them that when Altair begins flagrantly disobeying their code he grows agitated and confrontational, even in the midst of a mission. Even though Altair was higher than him and more talented as an assassin his acts against the Creed Malik refuses to give him respect. While Malik's devotion to the Creed and their master, Al Mualim, is nearly blind he can be reasoned with and his mind can be changed. When Altair asks Malik to look further into the works of their master to find the truth Malik is hesitant but eventually does. When what he finds proves their master's betrayal Malik stands up with Altair against him, despite how 'heart breaking' the revelations are.

As he was raised by the Assassin's Malik is disciplined, his work ethic fairly strong. He tends to be protective of those he cares about, most notably his younger brother. Despite the fact they are both assassins Malik tries to keep Kadar, his brother, from too much dangerous involvement or work higher than his skills. While how much he cares isn't immediately apparent from his rather harsh demeanor it is obvious from this protective streak that he does. When he eventually grows warmer to Altair his disagreeable demeanor lessens considerably and he can be surprisingly supportive and empathetic, willing to talk about forgiveness and the losses he suffered at Solomon's Temple that he blamed Altair for.

For a good deal of the early game Malik is extremely bitter for these losses, the loss of his arm and of his brother, and attacks Altair harshly for them. On that day he lost his only family and his future as an active assassin, something he obviously laments. Before the loss of his arm he was one of the best of the assassins, in league with Altair though he was not at Altair's skill level. He admits to harboring a great deal of jealousy for Altair and his skills, a jealousy that helped blind him during the events of Solomon's temple and helped orchestrate the disaster. It can be assumed before the accident the two were quite competitive, considering their skills and being of the same age group. Being stuck in a Bureau and out of active duty was not an easy transition for Malik, and only compounded his bitterness.

Despite this Malik makes a capable dai, something of an advisor stationed in Jerusalem to aid the assassins on missions there. Even before his accident Malik is fairly wise, his acceptance of the Creed and the ways of the assassins giving him a sort of stability Altair is yet to find. As time progresses in the Bureau he strengthens these skills more, working as a map maker and amassing something of loyalty in some of the assassins, enough at least that they are willing to stand against Al Mualim and with him and Altair when they go to defeat their former master. This 'wisdom' stretches to his ability to eventually forgive Altair as well. Though it's a long, slow process he is willing to concede when Altair makes strides as a person, though grudgingly at first. By the end he can see his own role in the disaster and tells Altair he does not need to ask forgiveness as Altair is not the same man he was before

abilities/powers: Malik was trained as an assassin and in that way he is an excellent fighter. The loss of his arm makes it harder for him and he isn't as skilled as he was in the past, but he is still formidable compared to those without such training. More so he's extremely perceptive, as he states, and is better at planning and exploiting.

It's possible he has the ability to differentiate enemy and friend with 'Eagle Vision' there is no canon evidence he is one of the assassins with this ability, so I think that can be disregarded.

first person sample: [From CS]

[Someone is a few days late! That's mostly because his Crusade era mind was mildly imploding at everything and the witch box that steals people's voices was wigging him out. Also the metal people full of clothes. What is life B( Oh yeah and he might have stealthily been checking shit out. But mostly the other stuff.

When the video clicks on someone looks pretty harried! He keeps his expression level despite this, staring hard at the camera like it might just be dangerous.]

This... item, it carries voices, does it not? But where?

[He hesitates] This sorcery is- it does not matter, someone [PAUSE] something must have a better explanation than what I've heard from this... box. A truly human voice would not be remiss.

third person sample: A CS log with several tags.
