i learned something today about love.
love is the most misunderstood word in the english language.
there are so many different types of love, that, in the english language, love is a very difficult word to define and describe.
but the ancient greeks had seven words for different types of love.
ill tell you about the major three.
the most popular type of love in American culture is called
Eros.
this type of love is very selfish and is for objects only.
this is also the type of love a baby has for its mother.
what i just said may seem like a contradiction, but the ancient greeks werent stupid and neither am i.
a baby sees its mother only as an object for survival.
from Eros comes the word erotic.
this word is what most of america thinks about 24/7.
the opposite of Eros is the love called
Agape.
this type of love is selfless and only for humans.
this is also the type of love mothers have for their children.
this love must be given to feel the third type of love.
Phileo.
this type of love that is mutual and for humans only.
Phileo is the type of love that is most sought after; ecstasy.
the latin word for ecstasy is ecstasis.
which means out of oneself.
americans try to reach ecstasy by putting things inside themselves.
but you really must give yourself up to reach ecstasy.
Eros usually ends up with children that arent loved and marriages that dont last.
Agape, and then Phileo, usually ends up with happy, caring children and lasting marriages.
some of you who will read this will never feel Phileo love because you do not give Agape love, you only
feel Eros love.
i hope i have made you a better person by telling you this.
not because i want to make you believe it.
