Character Name: Jayne Cobb

Age: I actually don't think anyone knows this, exactly? I'd guess he's in or around his thirties.
Species: human
Appearance: Jayne is a tall, muscular man who's got the rugged vibe down pat. He keeps his dark brown hair cropped short, although he does allow for a goatee of sorts when his facial hair isn't mere stubble. His clothes are often composed of a simple T-shirt and pants (both of which are somewhat tight, but nowhere near as much as Mal's) and combat boots, on occasion bringing a pair of muted gloves or a green jacket into the mix. He usually carries around a knife and gun, holsters strapped onto a wide belt.
Personality: Jayne is well known for being unsophisticated and for having a sort of disgust for the more intellectual people he comes across, although he isn't lacking in common sense, or pride, for that matter. He has a habit of touching and sniffing things in order to get more in touch with his environment. For his line of work, a love of weapons and a streak of cunning helps him overcome the obstacles he encounters. He is also more interested in whoever pays the most than making friends, as evidenced when he betrayed River and Simon to the Alliance. For all these reasons, he tends to come off as offensive and emotionally lacking.
He isn't, however, entirely emotionless. Soon after he betrayed the siblings, for example, he exhibited both shame for his actions - he worried about how the crew would think of him after his death - and a true fear of death. And although he may not show it, he has an underlying respect for Captain Reynolds, and the tiniest crush on Kaylee. He also loves his mother and tries to take care of her, even sending some money back home for her.
In short, Jayne is an onion. He has layers.
History: First and foremost, Jayne is a mercenary, so his loyalties will lie with whoever pays the most. He was involved in an ambush on Malcolm and Zoe, having been the one tracking them down. Malcolm was impressed by his skill, and started talking to Jayne while the man's gun was aimed at him, trying to convince him to join Serenity's crew. It worked, and Jayne joined them and has been with Captain Reynolds since, working on small jobs and sending money back home to his mother on his home planet.
Most recently, Jayne and the crew discovered the origin of the feared Reavers of the universe. He was especially disturbed by this, but he had hardly enough time to dwell on it before they were leaving for Mr. Universe's, the Operative and Reavers hot on Serenity's tail. He didn't have time to mourn Wash's death, as they were up and fleeing the second it happened. The crew tried to defend the place from the incoming Reavers, but they were forced to retreat behind the doors. Jayne had just enough time to watch River dive out to fight them and close his eyes for a moment before arriving in Chicago.
Supernatural Abilities: None.
Supernatural Weaknesses: None.
Natural Abilities: Jayne is a strong, physically imposing man. As a result, he has both an intimidation factor and the brawn to back it up in his arsenal. He is an outstanding marksman, sometimes successfully shooting his target without even looking. Coinciding with that is his seemingly unlimited knowledge of weapons, particularly guns. Also, Jayne can play the guitar and sing quite well.
Possessions: Guns, guns, and more guns. No, I'm kidding. He will have two guns, though - Boo the handgun and Lux the assault rifle. Binky, his knife, will also be waiting for a chance at some actions. I wish I could say he had a grenade or two, but the crew never trusts Jayne with the grenades.
