• personality • Saori’s older sister/motherly type of character. She’s quite independent because she had to help take care of her little brother and herself for a good portion of her life. Akira was a handful as a child, so she had to be more mature than other kids her age.
If a person needed someone to talk to or needed something, Saori would be there to help in anyway possible. She’s considered by her peers as a very reliable and diligent hard worker. However, she does tend not to be open about herself to others. She mostly keeps it to herself unless she has someone who she completely trusts and has managed to stay by her side for a very long time.
Money isn’t what drives her to work. She has a good sense of morals so she would never manipulate anyone for her own benefit. Saori believes in moderation and does not smoke, but will have a drink on a rare occasion. Also, she also knows her limits and tries not to step over them often.
• canon history • Saori was born into a farming family in Niigata, Japan. She had a rather normal life growing up. Because she often had to take care of her little brother Akira while her parents were out in the fields, Saori learned how to be independent at an early age. Literature and language were her strong points in class, so it would be no surprise if she slacked off in the math classes (and even took a few remedial courses in the summer).
Later, she got accepted into a college in Osaka and even studied a year abroad in New York. She graduated in studies focused on literature and English. From there, she worked as an English/Japanese translator at the Osaka branch of a major publishing company. She worked there happily, without complaint. However, there’s pressure from both the family and work to think about settling down. Saori would at least go once a month to visit her parents and her brother, who decided to take care of the family farm.
When she’s not working, she can be found in Kyoto. During her spare time, she looks for new books (specifically on ghost/paranormal subjects) or manga, a new toy for her cat, Masa, or buying different kinds of tea.
Her love for tea began when she was a child when her grandmother took her to a tea ceremony on her first trip to Kyoto. Instead of falling in love with the idea of possibly becoming a maiko (apprentice geisha), like the one who served the drink, she was enamored by the tea.
One day, she was visiting the Fushimi-Inari temple in Kyoto. As she climbed up the stairs to the main building, she heard the sounds of little bells chiming. Thinking it was nothing, she continued. Then the chimes got louder and louder as she went up until she finally looked back. That was the last anyone ever heard from Saori. Many say she was “spirited away”, but no one could figure out why. The real answer was she was taken away to Verde.
• verde history • Saori comes from a decent middle class family (no living relatives) and is currently living by herself. Her mother died of a sickness at the age of 11, while her father died when he stumbled out drunk into the forest outside of Verde. The grief was too much for him. Regardless, Saori took care of the household and Akira while attending school. Her brother died because he was trying to find a graduation gift for her and accidently stayed out past the curfew. Someone later found a necklace where Akira was killed and returned it to Saori. She wears this necklace to this day.
She graduated from the University with a degree in literature. Though Saori doesn’t care much for status, she was encouraged by her family to do something she’s passionate about. So, she opened a small café specializing in various teas and non-alcoholic beverages just outside the University. Inside the café, there’s a large orange cat that can always be seen lounging about. That would be her new pet Kai.
• sexual orientation • Saori is mainly straight, but she has no strong objections towards sex with a female. But if she is paired with a female, she’ll mostly play the submissive role since she’s still a bit shy about it.
• sample post • Saori placed the last of the washed porcelain tea cups onto the drying rack next to the sink. She glanced at the large round ball of fur curled contently in the patch of sunlight coming in from the window. Lucky Kai, she thought, shaking off the last of the water from her hands.
“Let’s see,” she said to herself as she redid the bun holding up her pink-brown hair, “all the tea leaves are ready, cups are washed, and the tables are set…Perfect and all before classes start too.”
She might as well use that time to indulge in some reading. Quietly, she took the well-worn book that was on top of the counter with her and she took a seat next to the sleeping cat. Saori opened its faded leather covers, revealing the aged paper and the simple green ribbon bookmark. No matter how many times she read the novel, the story still managed to captivate her as if it was her first time reading it.
She managed to lose track of time until the clock on the wall chimed. Kai yawned and stretched out for a few seconds before he went up the stairs leading to Saori’s living space.
“Almost time to start, huh?” she mused to herself. The treasured book went back next to the cashier. Saori dusted off her dress, making sure she was presentable towards the incoming customers. A small chime could be heard as the door was swung open.
“Welcome, how may I help you today?”
