Had fun trying to sleep last night....

I went to bed around 10 'til 2. Quite early for me. I had to get up at 9. No problem. So why is it that I didn't get to sleep until almost 4am?

For the first 45 minutes, my mind was just busy. Believe it or not, I was thinking about WoW and tapasita. Go figure :P Just couldn't get them out of my head. So that kept me up, and right around the time I was about to doze off, I hear this horrible noise outside. Not sure what the hell it was, thought some punks were screwing around. Then it got worse, and from my vantage point I realized it was kinda like a dude hoarsely yelling, but not saying anything. Kinda like "AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!" It kept up forever, and it was driving me insane! I threw on a shirt and stepped out my door to see what was up. Then I heard the guy talking/groaning/puking. Yes, some strange guy is making some god-awful racket because he is sick like a dog. Sounded terrible, and it was causing me to feel a little ill just listening to it o,0" I decided I was gonna call maintenance and have them tell this dude to puke quietly. I didn't wanna traverse 3 stories and 2 blocks in my p.j.'s to try and tell this guy to take it inside. I ask my roommate for the number, then go back into my room to make the call. After this guy had kept it up for 15 minutes, it was silent, though I think I may have heard him a little bit, but then BLISSFUL SILENCE. Aaaahhhhhh....then a truck pulled up in the parking lot and sat idle with it's engine on. Sounded like a diesel, but if it wasn't one thing, it was another. This truck stayed there for like 10 minutes, and again, got the mental juices flowing. 'Guy is sick like a dog, truck pulls up and stays...man, that would really suck if that was an ambulance or something...that would mean I was an asshole for not doing anything...' Sure enough, I get up again and go check, and half the fire department is a few buildings over, about where it sounded the guy was getting sick. The parked 'truck' was indeed the fire department EMS vehicle. At this moment I felt like a terrible human being, because there was something potentially pretty wrong with this guy and I did nothing. However, I scoped things out for a few minutes and I believe he must not have been in dire jeopardy because the fire department didn't stay much longer, and they turned off their lights and didn't use their sirens, as they would have if they needed to get this guy to the hospital. And I was finally able to sleep...

I am referring to the general mindset of people, INCLUDING myself when I say,

"Doesn't humanity just make you sick?"
