Stupidness....

Got  a leaflet through my door yesterday for a weight loss program in my town. Fair enough, I think it's like Weight Watchers.
But, I find their competition soooo irresponsible. What are they thinking?!?!?!

The comp is called "the biggest loser".

I don't think you are being overly sensitive. There is a TV show called The Biggest Loser, though.

Yeah, that rings a bell actually! I probably read the title and told Ian (step dad) there's a show on about him. That's about where my sense of humour is. lol.

Mmm, I'm not sure I agree... I am with you that as an eating disordered person it could be triggering, but those ads are aimed at ACTUALLY overwieght people, who NEED to lose weight and I imagine (as weightwatchers does) that you would have to have a BMI in the 'obese' category or above to be able to take part. Once your BMI is normal you can't be a member of weight watchers anymore someone told me, or something, to ensure that it is catering ONLY for people that actually need to lose wieght. They wouldn't, for example, even for One moment, allow YOU to join and take part, even if you wanted to...

I think competition can be a very healthy motivator to kick start someone into making a healthy choice for their body.

No, I do get what you're saying, that it is the speed and the WAY in which they might do it that could be dangerous ( ... )

I enjoyed the story about your aunt "which kind of defeats the point of my story" .. lol :). It would be interesting to know whether she's put on weight. I imagine (randomly) she'd put on a bit but probably not to the degree it was. I can't help but think a doctor telling someone to have 500 calories a day is being irresponsible. I can understand it if maybe it's a case of "lose the weight NOW" like for an operation or something but it's not a good way to lose weight. If she was that overweight she could have done it properly. But... oh well... doctors are shit, we know that :P ( ... )
