Thanks again to everyone who commented on my last post. It was a huge comfort just knowing there are people out there who care. ♥

So, as part of current attempts to distract myself from Real Life with a vengeance, I'd really like to buy an RPG, ( and I'd really appreciate some advice from the PC gamers on the flist. )

I'd say go for Dragon Age, except I don't know anything about the technical side. My sister *loved* it and she's not really a game person-she kept telling me all about the character relationships and plot twists, and replaying it.

WoW, you pay $15 a month, and it's really a social endeavor. You get the most out of MMORPGs if you strike up guild associations and go on quests together, and they're not particularly compelling, in terms of plot or writing.

I think I'll buy Dragon Age tomorrow and hope it'll work. It certainly sounds like the sort of game I'd enjoy. WOW, on the other hand, sounds kind of stressful.

Yeah, most social games are.

And, yep, to the other comment further down-there are a lot of free MMORPGS! They're not usually quite as well-developed as the paid ones, but if you want to try one out, to start, free might be a good way to go.

If you're looking for a free MMORPG, then you should take a look at Runes of Magic, which is a pretty and free-to-play MMORPG. =)

Oh, I didn't even know there were free ones out there! I'll check it out, thank you!

I recommend Oblivion to the sky. Great engine, easy to play, good levelling, and a huge sandbox world full of side-quests and NPCs. I've played it with about half a dozen different characters, it was just that fun.

A couple people recommended Oblivion, and it sounds great. I'll put it on the list!

I guess I'll just have to buy DA and cross my fingers that it'll work. Mass Effect's some sort of shooter game, isn't it? I'm hopelessly out of my depth with anything that requires coordination or the ability to quickly hit the right buttons. :(

The more I learn about WoW, the less it sounds like the right choice for me.

I second the rec for Oblivion. Dragon Age was over too fast for me, but it's super good, too.

It took me two years to get through the original Neverwinter Nights because I kept forgetting about it for months at a time, so I don't a game to be ginormously long to last me for a while. DA and Oblivion both sound really great. Now I just have to decide. Or possibly splurge, if I can get them both for reasonable prices.
