I had a really good run today. I haven't been running at all for about two years, but someone on my flist was talking about Zombies, run! and how great it is, and it made me want to start again. They were right, it IS great. It's an app that'll tell you a story about being a runner chased by zombies, and occasionally the zombies catch up with you ( Read more... )

I think a few of us have been posting about it recently! and idk about fast forwarding the missions, but you can set the story bits to play between every one song or every two (give or take depending on song length)

I'm doing the 5k training right now, but I'm on week 5 of 8 and I'm kinda of like "I can do the 5k, I don't really need it all broken down like this/for this to take 50 minutes." (I can do it in uh, 45??) but I'm sticking with it for plot, basically.

I might get it for the plot and then just ignore their instructions, maybe. I don't like to run for more than 30 mins, so if I want 5k, I'll have to get faster by a third. Which actually sounds doable, if I stick with this for a couple more weeks, and maybe find a trail with no goddamn hill on it.

Is there still lots of Sam in later missions? I love him.

they build up the mission length/stamina, so if yours is already pretty good, you could do like a jog when they walk, run with they says jog thing on the 5K. Sam's in and out, they do various characters with the doctor being the one who's leading the training. And saying stuff like "Great job!" "You were a real hero today" and I'm always just like "damn right".

Or just do a shorter freeform run at the end of most missions.

I am able to resume missions, though? Like, I do a 45 minute run when I go to the gym, so I often listen to a mission and a half, and there's always a resume button. I think you just can't stop it during a talking segment without losing that segment. However, if you log on to their Zombie Link website, you can relisten to all the audio clips there, which is also useful if say, a bus goes by and drowns out the sound or whatever. If you really do want to fast forward, the cludgey was is to stop it after every segment and then restart again immediately, which cuts out the song playing time.

Sam is super adorable! I honestly don't think I'd be nearly as invested in the app if his voice actor weren't so good.

Oh, that's perfect, I didn't notice4 the audio clips on their website at all. :D

I don't know why it isn't letting me resume, but I've only done one mission so far, so maybe it'll work next time.

The voice actor is amazing! So damn charming.

That's a smartphone app, right? Nothing for a mp3player?
Aw well.
(I'm doing a First Day to 5 k program right now, with walking breaks, so that app probably wouldn't work for me right now anyway, but it sounds fun! For maybe later! But sadly, no smartphone. :/ )

They actually have a beginner to 5 k app with lots of walking, too! There might be an option to download the mp3 files on their website once you've bought the app, I'll check into it tomorrow.

Oh, that sounds interesting! And if you'd check, that'd be great. :D
