Turns out I only sort of am! I managed to back up the rest of my files, and then the computer suddenly malfunctioned again. So apparently it wasn't just the drive after all. :(

At this point I think I need to hand the problem over to an expert. Or possibly buy a new motherboard, which was kind of overdue anyway, and see if that solves the problem. But I REALLY do not want to do all the research that goes into buying a new motherboard, never mind all the fiddly installing.

Do you back up the stuff you've created, at least? It's annoying enough losing music or tv or whatever, but losing fic I wrote or my photos would just kill me.

Well. I *only* back up the stuff I create. Every two months or so. I don't produce much anyway, so I'm not going to lose more than 5 icons or so at any time. Photos I keep on the camera going back at least two months, too. So I tell myself that it wouldn't be a great loss.

So, not really?
