My eye surgery is coming up tomorrow. For an exciting preview of what may be in store for me, I give you the following quote from my doctor's informational brochure: "In the first few days you may experience strong pain, tearing, burning, reddening, and light sensitivity, comparable to being hit in the eye with a branch. i could put the The Hunger Games trilogy in dropbox for you, but it's also easily downloadable. I was indifferent to the movie but then the book, SO much more detail, so much darker. Rewatching the movie I could see lots of little details you'd only notice if you'd read the book. Pratchett books also easily acquired. I'm currently listening to Gaiman's American Gods, but I wouldn't rec it, I find it too slow - the sort of book I'd skim bits and focus on other bits more.

Also, NOT FUN. *hugs* Wishing you best possible result from the surgery.

Good luck, sweetie! If it's anything like the time I badly scratched my cornea with a mechanical pencil (don't ask), the pain meds will make everything tolerable and fuzzy, but it's sort of like....even if you're lying still and not moving, you start to realize that your eyes are twitching or, idk, your heartbeat is making them move and it's not fun.

I recced a friend a bunch of podfic by pandarus here, since I've liked everything I've heard of her readings. There's always Welcome to Night Vale for podcasts if you're not familiar, although it might be a little trippy if you're on pain meds. SlashReport, if you want a break from stories to hear some fangirls being ridiculous and funny. The commenter below's recommendation of QI is also good -- although you'll miss Stephen Fry's face, the show's full of word-centric humor and people talking and you can listen pretty casually as you like and then tune back in when they've moved on to the next bit of trivia, which might be a good thing on pain meds.

FWIW, if you have some favorite authors on the AO3, paste in this search:

(author1 OR author2 OR author3...) podfic

and it should give you a heap of podfics!

Good luck! *sends best wishes your way*
