A few weeks back I made a weekend trip to Niagara Falls. I found considerably more variety than I anticipated. Overall it was a very worthwhile vacation, and modestly priced too (all expenses totaled about $300).
That doesn't look spartan to me. Maybe low on paintings, but I never cared much for hotel paintings. Did the nasty reviews have more to do with staff responsiveness?
I never played the R&B game, but it is the only pinball game I've seen advertised on another, namely Star Wars. Yeah, I kinda miss pinball too. And arcades in general.
Ripley has a museum? I can't imagine it's exciting. What would it have besides a buttload of random facts you could find in comic collections?
Hardwood floors instead of carpet, etc. Seemed a bit less cozy than I'm used to. Some of the more recent reviews mentioned insects and dirty bedsheets, but they've apparently cleaned up their act.
I reserved the hotel room through hotwire.com, and their gimmick is if you want the best price, you can't find which hotel you're staying at until you've booked the room. So you can't research the hotel beforehand. They provide an average star rating, but if the hotel is recently in steep decline the average may not reflect current conditions (used to be three stars but has been one star the last couple of months could display as two-and-a-half stars).
My favorite treats for arcade games are large amusement parks, usually they have a bunch of the 1980's games still hanging around. Kennywood and Hersheypark have nice collections.
The Ripley's museum supposedly has some of the oddities they mentioned in their pages over the years. I'll have to be sure and check it out on my next visit, which will probably be a few years from now.
A cartoon squirrel pushing maple cream cookies...sounds normal to me. Better than some of the things they have cartoons pushing stateside like pink plastic pony toys. }:3
