well, three of you gave me the go ahead, and no one mentioned being scared off by textures, so i'm going ahead and posting them. ^^ but to make things interesting for those of you watching this comm solely for the icons, i've whipped up a few sample icons to accompany each of the sets. while i'm only posting three previews of each, i'll be posting

there's icon_tutorial for, well, just about everything. checking the memories would be your best bet, since the actual comm is bogged down with like 20 of each tutorial, lol. (there's a section for beginners here.) but if there's something in specific you'd like to know, like texture-usage for example, i wouldn't mind whipping up a tutorial for you. ^^ i've been wanting to do a tutorial or two anyway, so i really wouldn't mind.

omfg I have discovered brushes. :D!!!! I have no idea what to do with them, but it's fun as heck so far. 8D

I'm using Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8. Only because someone had it as a free download once ^^

I found the duplicate layer button but I don't understand how that changes colours. I don't see a blend button.. ;o; aah I've been fiddling for two hours.

now PSP8 i can handle. XD the blend modes should be to the right of the layers in the layer menu; they'll all be set on normal to begin with. they won't change the colors so much: the trick is more or less blending textures, brushes or just color-fill layers (like a dark blue layer set on Exclusion) in between or with the duplicate layers; at least that's how i go about it. ^^ the fun is experimenting, and now that you've found brushes, there's oodles more you can do, lol.

I've been experimenting! I made two icons. I don't get what's with exlusion, because I tried using it with one of your pink textures but it made everything teal. I also tried teh dark blue thing and I got a yellow background. ?_?

yay! you'll have to show me what you've been coming up with. ^^

the exclusion layer is really only ever good with dark blue (and by dark blue i mean practically black). most of the pink textures i have would probably work better on screen, multiply, or soft light. in the first three sample icons, all three are pink/red textures set on screen, for example. but i'm not as texture-intensive as most people, lol. some other cool things to try with coloring would be a really, really light blue or green (or even teal) color-filled layer set on burn. if the image you're working from has a lot of green in it, a light green burn layer will really enhance the greens and make them a nice near-radioactive, lol. i spend a lot (probably too much) time fiddling with the coloring on icons, so that's really where i could probably give you the most advice. ^^
