My 2nd annual arrow-stompin' birthday challenge

Apr 25, 2009 19:11

Last year I set a DDR challenge for my 40th birthday: dance my age in 10-footers. 4 10-footers in 1 session. I did it, too. Well, this year I decided to top that: dance my age in 10-footers, my age being 41 instead of 40. How to get that extra 1? I'm not gonna count no sissy 1-footer toward the goal...

Bend Your Mind Expert, a 10-footer, with the added mod "beat," which makes the arrows shake side-to-side as if they've had too much caffiene. Since I read the arrows in columns as opposed to seeing where each one is pointing, that added the extra point of challenge in my mind. (BYM is a great favorite for me. It makes you breakdance on the pad, and impresses the heck out of spectators.)

For the reat of 'em, I wanted to dance 10s I didn't do last year. So....

Not too hard until the last third, when it gets just a touch more intense, and I have to hang on for dear life 'til the end. By the way, this song is by "Missing Heart," which is E-Rotic without the smut.

A new 10-footer for me! I deserve ice cream! I couldn't pass this earlier because of the double-taps in the second half streams. Just couldn't read it well enough to keep up with the funky rhythm. But in the last 6 months I've gotten just a touch better, and suddenly this 10 is easily within my grasp. BTW, at Dragon*Con '05 I saw Kyle Ward - the music and step composer - get a triple-star (over 99%) on this one. I was awed.

This one is easy to read, but it's a beast for endurance. Flamenco guitar, with steps matching the strumming, which means a lot of fast, murderous streams. Despite that, this song is quite fun. And the background video is about pirate potatoes.

That was a good birthday workout! Now to steam an artichoke, boil some crab legs, melt some butter, and afterwards eat some of the most heinous chocolate chip cake I've ever seen.

birthday challenge, 10-footers, birthday, itg, ddr
